GI Joe 25th Ann. Wave 7 Spirit Iron-Knife

Package Description
SPIRIT IRON-KNIFE comes from a family so far below the poverty line that they never realized they were poor. Was a hunting guide through high school. Served in Southeast Asia, then as a civilian completed his education. Returned to the service for reasons inexplicable to anyone but a Native American mystic warrior. Qualified expert: M-16; M-1911A1 Auto Pistol; Remington marksman rifle.

Appearance
I’m not sure what parts of this figure may be re-used, but I like the combination. Iron-Knife is definitely different from any other figures I have. The tunic, boots, straps, and headband give him a very unique look (along with his eagle of course). The colors in general are also very nice. None of the clothes, or even the eagle have a hard plastic look which plagues some figures. There’s enough sculpt details and clothing changes to leave no large colorless areas, because otherwise there’s not a lot of details in the figure. Overall, there’s enough color changes and sculpt details to make the figure look good.

In contrast to the main figure, the gun and backpack don’t look good because of the lack of color. I’m not a fan of the face either. Iron-Knife has a very square jaw and a sad face that just doesn’t seem appropriate for someone walking around with a gun. The overall proportions and size of the figure are good. None of the articulation is overly obvious. Overall, he’s a good looking figure, but I think I prefer him without the eagle.

Articulation

Iron-Knife has articulation expected from 25th Anniversary figures. He has double jointed knees, ball jointed ankles and elbows, a ball jointed torso and many straps that restrict movement just a little. The elbows don’t bend 90 degrees, and the head can’t look up very far.

Poseability
Iron-Knife can do some nice poses, but looks a little awkward holding his gun. He has big balance problems even with the base if you try to pose him with the eagle and the backpack. The bird especially is hard to get to stay on, and can throw him off balance. Otherwise, he looks good with other 25th Anniversary figures.

Final Judgment: 5

Iron-Knife looks great visually and is a nice contrast to a lot of other figures. The balance problems were just plain annoying for me though, and the gun is just plain ugly. The eagle is more trouble than its worth in my opinion. In the end he didn’t quite live up to my expectations, and so gets a score of adequate.
