Arkham City Nightwing Figure Review

DC Collectibles has delivered a number of baddies for Batman to fight in their Arkham City line, but now they bring us an one of Bruce Wayne’s oldest and most trusted allies, Dick Grayson as Nightwing. Though not as articulated as the Batman figure in this wave, Nightwing does sport a little more pose-ability than your typical DC Collectibles figure. Is it enough to make it one for your collection? Read on to find out.

Check out hi-res images for this figure in our GALLERY below.

Packaging - The figure comes in standard blister packaging that clearly displays the figure on the front and shows an image of all the figures in the wave on the back. The plastic bubble is shaped like Batman’s head and a paper insert showing the Gotham cityscape is used as the background. Once opened, you can take the insert out and open it up to show other DC Collectibles Arkham City based collectibles offered. In this particular case, they show the Deluxe Titan Joker figure and Harley Quinn Statue. The back of the insert also has a brief bio about Arkham City. The same generic packaging is used for all of the figures in this wave.

Sculpt - The detailing on this one is quite nice and far superior to the older DC Direct Nightwing I own from their HUSH line. The armor lines of the padding on the suit are all sculpted in as are the blue armor pieces which adds an element of realism to the overall look and feel of the figure. The mask and strands of hair on his forehead also are sculpted. On the figure’s back are two clamps to hold the batons when not in use. Detail-wise this definitely is one of the nicest Nightwings I have seen to date.

Paint - The paint details are nice on this figure as well. The figure is primarily painted in black with a blue metallic paint used for the stripes on his arms, chest and back. The mask uses a glossier black paint. At least with my figure, some paint nicks show in the corners. I’m also not a huge fan of the skin tone they use on the face. It depends a little on the light, but it just seems too light to me.

Articulation - As I mentioned in the intro, Nightwing has a little bit more articulation than your typical DC Collectibles figure but not on the same level as the Batman figure in this wave. His head can look left and right but has virtually no up or down movement. He has the hinged ball joints at the shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows and swivel wrists. No torso joint of any kind, not even a swivel joint at the waist. His legs are attached at the waist with what looks to be ball-joints so he has the ability to spread his legs some. He can’t do a full splits, and he can only move his legs back a little. Still, this is the main area where he has more movement than most DC Collectibles figures. He has single jointed knees and swivel calf joints with no type of ankle joint at all. Some kind of torso and ankle joints would have gone a long way to making this one of the best Nightwing figures out there.

Accessories - He comes with his two battle batons which he can hold well in either hand or place on his back.

Overall - I like this figure. It would have been a lot better if they had given this figure the same kind of articulation they gave the Batman in this wave, but still you can get him in some cool poses and he looks good fighting crime next to the Dark Knight. I like how they allow you to attach the batons on his back when not in use, and the figure even has enough articulation that he can reach back to grab them which is cool. If you are a fan of Nightwing, then I definitely think you will want to add this one to your collection. Due to the articulation issues, it may not be the best Nightwing out there but it certainly is the nicest DC Collectibles one to date. Now we just need them to release a New 52 version.
