Toy Fair 2009: G.I.Joe: Resolute Animated Series Update

In yesterday’s Q&A with Hasbro at the 2009 Toy Fair, it was asked if the new G.I.Joe: Resolute animated series was still going to be released or if it had been put on hold. Aaron Archer from Hasbro though wasn’t forthcoming with a lot of details did say that the series would still be released and that they were finishing up work on the series. Still no actual release date has been given though my guess is that it won’t be until sometime after the new movie hits theaters.

It'd be awesome if they could somehow spin this into an ongoing series, but I doubt that'll happen. A "PG-13" series is probably too hard-edged for Hasbro to do as an ongoing. Clone Wars kinda/sorta pulls it off, but they've got the Lucas marketing juggernaut behind it.

Not to get this off topic, but the Clone Wars movie sucked balls. However, I've caught a few of the individual episodes on television, and they are a TON better than the movie.

It really would be nice if we could get something like this for GI Joe.

Yep, the ongoing series is much better than the movie. But then again the movie was just two or three episodes spliced together and hastily tossed on-screen.

I think the plan was as always to release it on the web and then maybe DVD with Cartoon Network picking it up and showing it around the time the movie is released (atleast that would make some sense, you'd have the Joe name on TV with all the movie spots airing). Now I think that Hasbro is thinking that Resolute will in some way "harm" the marketing for the movie and are backing off. I do think that if the movie is really successful then we'll see it released quickly or if nothing else have the announcmet of a new animated series based on the movie being done (which I am surprised hasn't happened yet and when it does I imagine the outcry by "real" Joe fans will be load).

Seems like they are wasting alot of time and money, not to releasing this.

they may have no choice, no one may want to release it for them!

Just releasing it on Hasbro's website isn't going to get enough traffic to warrant the expense of production, because let's face it...the only people going to look at it would be already-existing fans/collectors. Hasbro needs a network to pick up the micro-series in order for it to get the level exposure that they want. Unfortunately they seemed to be counting on Cartoon Network picking it up, and apparently Cartoon Network isn't playing (or probably more accurately isn't willing to put it in a "prime time" timeslot where lots of people will see it).

Pretty much puts Hasbro's hands in a bind. This may end up becoming an "extra feature" on the DVD release of the movie at this rate.

Resolute was never going to be the harbinger of the "great Joe renaissance" that some people seem to be ascribing to it (seemingly mostly because they refuse to believe the movie can serve that role), because it was never going to get a level of exposure that would cause that much interest in the brand.

As always they work with the nom noms to do a job a monkey can do. Like in everything else Aaron does he fails. Way to let the fans down again as always Aaron. You havent learned yet have you? LOL!!!!!!!!!!

How sad, I really wanted this to succeed It also means they have wasted marketing on this considering the figs that have come out with it so far.
