DCUC 6" “Unleashed” Doomsday Figure Coming This Winter From Mattel

by Jay Cochran
August 20, 2014
Apparently Mattel has had a change of heart and decided that they will release the 6" DC Universe Classics “Unleashed” Doomsday figure (the one pictured on the right). Originally, the Doomsday Unleashed figure was only to be released if Mattel received enough subscriptions for the second tier of their DC Infinite Earth subscription service last year. They actually didn't get enough subscriptions for tier 1 or 2 and the line was canceled. Since then the tier 1 Doomsday Contained figure (the one pictured on the left) was released as a convention exclusive last month at San Diego Comic Con. Mattel said due to tooling costs the Unleashed Doomsday would never be released but now that no longer seems to be the case. Here is the official announcement:

Celebrating the official end of the Four Horsemen 6" DC Universe line, Mattel is excited to partner with Warner Bros. and DC Comics to bring you the long-in-coming “Unleashed” Doomsday figure! He will be available this winter in an amazing window box diorama as a standalone day-of purchase! Images and full details to come, but we couldn't wait to share this news with our fans! This final figure will celebrate the end of a fantastic toy line.

Doomsday Unleashed confirmed at $40 for November sale!

I have the same Doomsday in my limited, Superman theme characters display, bro. While I would have liked the larger Doomsday, its only because I don't possess any larger Superman villains except Darkseid. I agree though, the DC Superheroes Doomsday is perfectly fine for me.

Triumph- I forgot about those 30 dollar repaints/should be accessories they are releasing soon. It's so sad that we couldn't even get a new head for Superman after all this time. And that my Wally West I waited forever for has 2 different sized legs. And that they never made a proper Kyle Rayner, or ever made a Conner Hawke, or even fixed that lanky suit body that they reused all the time.

Whenever people pull out their "they never did give us a...."list, it always makes me remember how at peace I am with my DC collection.

DC Direct did an original costume Kyle and a Wally West that I'm perfectly happy with. Conner Hawk? Might be nice but can definitely live without. Yeah...there's really no stand out character that I desperately want. Losi Lane....maybe....?

Feat, my guess would be DC Collectibles does do a New 52 Doomsday and that it will be the same cost as a Darkseid or mutated Joker.

My bet for Mattel's "final figure" price? $70. A good chunk of which will be a spite tax, getting back at fans for letting the sub die.

I wonder if DCC will ever get around to a deluxe 52 Doomsday and what he will cost...especially compared to this

Still waiting for the cost to be announced.

If they're charging $30 for repaints then how much will this cost?

Yeah I also am utterly confused how the "powers that be" changed their mind after seeing the mock-up. Did they just summarily dismiss the notion of producing the more fan demanded version of the character due to the higher tooling costs (even after the subscription failed to go through)? And if some corporate big-wigs can ultimately make the determination regardless of expressed fan desire and previously stated reasons for not producing the figure just because they were impressed by a pre-production sample (but more likely based on marginal benefit and potential profit projections), then why even have that stupid subscription thermometer? The Four Horsemen could just produce cool figures to the best of their ability and somehow "wow" the "powers" into agreeing to production..

And shame on all of you who are allowing Mattel to "fool you twice" in regards to their products. It's actually more like a dozen times at this point that Mattel has been less than forthcoming with the fans/collectors. I don't see how Hasbro's ML swaps are anything like the kind of price gouging stunts that Mattel has pulled with their recent lines.

Needless to say, I won't be purchasing Doomsday, despite my desire to own the character, unless those Chinese sellers on ebay make him available. Mattel gets none of my money.

Ha ha. All of your wondering is for naught. The Powers that Be did NOT "change their minds". Don't believe their line of bull and don't over think anything here. This. Was. The. Plan.

This is the second time someone's referred to Hasbro's ML swaps. I honestly don't know what this means. Can someone tell me?

You can still get a Doomsday that's properly scaled to the way he first appeared in the comics. It's from Mattel's DC Superheroes line. That's the one I went with. The only reason he doesn't get love is because some fanboys think anyone super-strong needs to be at least Hulk sized or taller. So one day they decided to label him "shrimpy".

I know for a fact that I'm not getting it so I'm just going to sit back and watch the drama unfold

"one last time".

"Its the toy we never thought we could make, but its happening! In a final farewell to theDCU Signature Series and the Four Horsemen, Doomsday arrives bigger, badder, and totally Unleashed!

He was never supposed to see the light of day, but when the powers that be saw the amazing mock-up of this bad boy, they were completely blown away. We got the green light, and the Four Horsemen got to work. Were stoked to offer this final figure to fans as we say goodbye to the DCU Signature series.

When he arrives later this fall,Doomsday will appear as he did in the best-selling DC comic of all time,Superman #75, where this menace from the stars killed the Man of Steel. This fully articulated figure stands 9 tall and in scale to the 6 tall Supermanfigure. He includes the shredded cape of Superman, which is removable, and arrives in huge window box packaging celebrating the completion of the 6 DCU Signature Series line.

Check back for all the details when he goes on sale. In the meantime, youve been warned Doomsday is coming!"

Who exactly are the "powers that be" and why cant they tell us HOW MUCH?

just please guys don't move your hate to NECA @firedevil@ it's still pretty peaceful there @loll@

Neca's cool. As long as they don't release this "8-bit video game" Keaton Batman (link) claiming that they will never make a regular version, then I go and buy it thinking "Well, this is as close as I'll get..." Then they go and release the regular Keaton version anyway. Such a hypothetical situation would anger me @razz@ @bats@

@loll@ That actually might happen, now that the 6inch articulated line is going to be up for grabs. Maybe DC Direct will grab it , they have come along way with quality and articulation but who knows.

I thought DCD already has the license for the TV and movie DC figures. I thought that's why this figure was being made styled in 8 bit video game colors because there's nothing that prevents them from modeling product off of antequated 8 bit video games. It sounds flimsy to me but if it's on the internet then it has to be true right?????? @loll@
