Hal Jordan wanted nothing more than to follow in his father's footsteps and become a U.S. Air Force pilot. So on his eighteenth birthday he ran away, enlisted, and made a reputation for being the most courageous test pilot alive.
When alien Abin Sur, a member of the Green Lantern Corps (an intergalactic police force), crashed to Earth, he was close to death. Using his powerful green ring - a Green Lantern's primary tool he scanned the planet for a replacement. The ring chose Hal Highball Jordan. Hal was teleported to the planet Oa, home of the Guardians of the Universe, where he was trained to use his ring. As powerful as its bearers will, the ring needs to be recharged every 24 hours with a lantern-shaped battery connected to the Central Power Battery on Oa. As Green Lantern, Hal patrolled Space Sector 2814. He wielded his ring with precision and his courage carried him far-willing to fight wrong-doers, but also question authority when necessary.
