DC Comics Icons 6" Aquaman Figure Review & Images

It's been a little while since we last saw a new DC Comics 6" Icons figure on the shelf, but the wait is almost over. The third wave consisting of Superman, Aquaman, Atomica and Harley Quinn will be hitting comic and specialty shops next month (June 2016). Thanks to the folks at DC Collectibles for hooking me up. I will be kicking off a series of advance reviews looking at three of those figures over the course of the next few days, starting today with Aquaman followed soon by reviews of Atomica and Superman.

Aquaman is packaged in the same style of window-box packaging we have seen with the previous Icons figures. Aquaman stands almost exactly 6" tall and includes his traditional golden 5-tipped trident made from a stiff plastic. The figure also includes three different pair of hands (close-fisted hands, grip hands for holding the trident, open hands) and an alternate head allowing you to mimic his power to communicate with sea animals.

The figure is based on Aquaman as he appeared in the Legend of Aquaman comic, sporting the classic short blond hair with orange shirt and green pants. The overall paint job is solid, and I really like the look of the metallic orange paint and the textured sculpting details they use on the shirt.

Articulation is on par with the previously released Icons figures. The head is on a ball-joint with minimal back and forth movement. You have the standard ball-hinged joints at the shoulders, bicep swivel, double-hinged elbows and swivel-hinged wrists. A mid-section joint provides swivel action, and an ab-crunch joint has minimal movement. The legs are attached with ball-joints and do lack the thigh swivel. Double-jointed knees and ankle-hinge joints with good pivot action round out the figure's movement. If I had any complaint with the articulation, it would be with the head. I wish they included a hinge on the neck for better back and forth movement for swim-like poses.

Overall, I think this is a nice looking figure and one you will want to add to your Icons collection, especially if you are a fan of Aquaman's classic look. The figure has solid paint applications and good accessories.

As I mentioned before, this figure is due out in June. I also want to pass on a bit of information about the status of the fourth wave. Originally due out this month, the wave including Joker, John Stewart Green Lantern and Firestorm has been pushed back until later this summer. I don't have a specific release date on that wave as of yet, but I will be sure to update you all once I do. Check out hi-res images for Aquaman below in our GALLERY, and stay-tuned for reviews of Atomica and Superman coming in the next few days.
