DC Collectibles 7" DCTV Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, Vixen & Constantine Review & Image Gallery

DC Collectibles is releasing their next batch of 7” DCTV figures this week giving us two new characters for the Arrow TV series line and the first two figures for Supergirl. The wave consists of Vixen and Constantine from Arrow as well as Supergirl and Martian Manhunter from Supergirl. These figures are available for pre-order now at BigBadToyStore.com.

The packaging for all four figures is pretty standard. A window-box clearly displays the figure. At the bottom, the television series logo the figure is associated with and to the right the name of the character and its number in the series is displayed. Constantine is 13 and Vixen is 14 in the Arrow line, while Supergirl is 1 and Martian Manhunter is 2 in the Supergirl line. The left side of the packaging features an image of the figure, and the back shows all four figures in the wave. The packaging for the Arrow figures has green and white highlights, while the Supergirl ones have blue and green highlights.

The only accessories are extra sets of hands. Constantine has the most diverse sets. Besides close fisted and open grip hands, a pair with translucent flames sculpted in the palms to mimic his magic abilities is included. Two extra right hands are included, one holding his signature cigarette lighter and the other sculpted to look like it is attempting some type of magic defense. The other three figures in the wave each come with just three pairs of standard type hands. The Supergirl figure is missing the second head sculpt originally shown in solicitation images that would have allowed you to put the figure in better flight poses.

Articulation on all four figures is pretty standard, including singled-hinged elbows, double-jointed knees and no hinges on the necks or ankle-pivot. The lack of ankle pivot doesn’t bother me too much, but hinges on the neck to move the head back and forth would have been nice - especially for Vixen, Supergirl and Martian Manhunter who have the ability to fly. As I mentioned before, originally Supergirl was slated to come with an alternate head for flying poses, but unfortunately it was not included with the final product. For all three characters, it is pretty hard to get them in good positions for flying.

For the figures themselves, all four have very solid sculpts and paint applications.

I think Vixen is the best of the bunch as far as the head sculpt. It does an incredible job of capturing the character’s likeness from the TV show. For those not familiar, this version of Vixen is different from the one that appears regularly in the DC Legends Of Tomorrow series. The one that appeared in the Arrow TV series is the current version, while the one in Legends Of Tomorrow stems from the World War II era and is actually the grandmother of this Vixen. The sculpting and paint apps on the rest of the figure are also very solid though I would have liked to see a little more detail given to the gold amulet she wears around her neck. It doesn’t look bad on the figure, but it is the character’s source of power after all. Overall, Vixen is a very nice looking figure. If I had any complaint, it’s that she didn’t come with any accessories to help mimic her powers to recreate the abilities of animals. Something like a yellow translucent animal spirit effect would have been cool.

Constantine is a nice addition to the TV line. While most might remember Constantine from his own short-lived NBC series, the figure is based on his one-time appearance on the Arrow TV Series. The head sculpt is pretty solid. I don’t think it looks 100% like Matt Ryan who played the character on the show, but it is pretty close. The sculpting on the rest of the figure with the signature trench coat and wrinkled shirt and tie does the figure justice. The worst thing about the figure is that it makes me long for a return of the series to the CW, which likely will never happen.

Martian Manhunter is a pretty basic figure but does a nice job of capturing the look of J'onn J'onzz from the Supergirl TV series. I like the sculpting detail with the cheekbones and line work on the forehead of the figure, and I think the paint applications on the costume are solid and pop out nicely on the figure with things like the sculpted red X-like shape on his chest. The cape made with a rubbery material hangs on the figure well.

My overall favorite figure in the wave is Supergirl herself. The head sculpt does a nice job of capturing Melissa Benoist’s look. My only minor complaint is that I would have liked to see her with a smile. In the show she always seems to be smiling, and I think it would have been more fitting for the character than the more static expression they gave her. Still I am happy with it. The sculpting detail with the rest of the figure and her outfit is dead on to how it appears on the show. Things like the texturing on the blue portions and the thin red lines throughout the outfit are accurate. I think if they had included the aforementioned alternate head for better flight poses, this figure would have been very close to being perfect.

In the end, I feel all four figures do a nice job representing the characters as they appear on the CW Network. The scale for all four figures is good as they fit in nicely with the other previously released DCTV figures such as Arrow and Flash. As mentioned before, Supergirl is my favorite, but I think all of them will make nice additions to your collection. Now I just have to wait for White Canary, Kid Flash and The Atom which will be released towards the end of the year.

These figures were provided to us by DC Collectibles for the purpose of review. Be sure to check out Extreme-Sets.com for a wide selection of action figure backdrops and 3D dioramas.
