DSTChuck has released a new Diamond Select Toys Q&A over on their Art Asylum website for your viewing pleasure.

In this weeks edition focuses Star Trek. Check out the entire Q&A below:

1) 2012 is the 25th Aniversary of Star Trek The Next Generation - Paramount is celebrating by Re-releasing the series in Blue Ray, and are recompiling the visuals for the release from the original model work footage. Will DST attempt any significant TNG model work of its own for this significant milestone? 2) Is there any clarification on which version of the Excelsior class you are planning on making and / or releasing? Technically there are three different physical designs - the NX 2000 Excelsior, the NCC 2000 Excelsior, - which has physical differences from the NX version, and the distinclty different Enterprise B / Lakota variant. Are all three options on the table? 3) This is a Yes / No. Question = Has the Akira class design (such as the USS Thundedrchild) ever been considered as a popuar ship for release at all? These are my last questions for a DST Q & A. So Thank you for the AGT Enterprise D ( by far your best ship work) and for the Stargate SG1 and Altantis figs. (Your best fig work.) It was a fun ride while it lasted.

DSTChuck: 1) Right now we have no specific TNG plans but we’ve not locked all of our 2012 line so we’ll see. 2) I think we have shown multiple versions in the past and right now the factory is working on the steel tool that is required for mass production, after that there will be some inevitable trouble shooting and after that we’ll be able to confidently give more certain answers on variants, play features and ship dates. 3) I do not recall but I guess since it’s yes or no I’ll say YES since I think we at time have pretty much discussed everything. Truthfully we have not done ANY hard planning for the next ship after these two and only JUST looked at locking down the next roll play items. Honestly LOTS of Trek work is going on behind the scenes right now, might not be what each fan wants us to do but I expect a decent amount of Trek output from DST over the next couple years.

Phenomenal quality Star Trek ships. I got into this a bit late and have missed quite a few offerings. Any chance you may reissue the Enterprise D original ship?

DSTChuck: Greg, we are working right now with our factory to see which ships we can re-run and when. Most are being considered including the D and AGT D.

John Gorman
Any chance of a few more aliens from TOS - I’d love to see the Horta from ‘Devil in the Dark’, Balok’s alter ego , Yarnek from ‘The Savage Curtain’ and -MOST OF ALL- the NOMAD robot from ‘The Changeling’ (on a perspex transparent stand possibly with Spock Mind Melding…..) And how about some aliens on the same scale as the Trek figures from the best USA series the Original 1960’s Outer Limits series. There simply isnt enough merchandise from this marvellous classic sci fi show…..

DSTChuck: John, honesty I just don’t know, we were pretty disappointed in the pre-orders for the Salt Vampire when we tried it. Now I know that was a different time then now and other variables might have changed but the lack of retailer interest in the Borg line and Vampire caused us to rethink the direction we had been taking Trek so we’ll have to see where we go in the future.

Daniel Tinnirello
Hello. I would like to know if you plan on making 7″ figures from Star Trek Enterprise such as Ensign Hoshi Sato in Starfleet Uniform, Dr. Phlox, Lt. Malcolm Reed in EVA Suit, Ensign Travis Mayweather in EVA suit, Sub Commander T’Pol in third season uniform? Thank You!

DSTChuck: Daniel I am sorry to say we still have no plans to make more product from the Enterprise TV Series.

Adam Smith
Hello are you guys still making the Klingon bird of prey and the Klingon disruptor or have those items been cancelled? Please say they are still in development. And i saw a website that said you guys were teaming with a japanese company on a model of the enterprise-d. Is this true?

DSTChuck: We are hard at work on the BOP, progress on the disruptor has been slower, and hopefully we’ll have news on that soon. YES over the last year we have been working with some Japanese companies on Trek ships and you should all see the results of that soon.

Brendan Caulfield
Hi Chuck! So glad to see on Face book that the factory issues in China are dealt with! I placed a pre-order for the Nemesis Enterprise-E over a year ago, and have never lost faith in you guys! Thrilled also to hear that development on the BOP and the Excelsior class ships is proceeding concurrently. As for the future, I know you receive lots of suggestions, but can you tell us, without making any commitments, which flavors of the Star Trek property are more attractive to you? Finally, I’d like add my voice to the legion of requests you’ve had for a Reliant, and also make a particular recommendation for the Klingon D-7 / Klingon K’Tinga / Romulan D-7 class battlecruiser. It has massive variant potential (Qo’nos One, TOS, Romulan, K’Tinga TMP & TNG, and the Trials and Tribbleations versions), and is instantly recognisable even to non-fans as the “Klingon baddy ship!”.

DSTChuck: Brendan, I think if I had to answer I’d say TOS seems by far to have the most success for us. We have in the past tried to release as much product for Trek overall as we can; including working on retro cloth TNG but all things equal TOS seems to do best so we start there.

Antonio Fernandez
Hello¡ I’m a big fan of your ships, minimates, etc and i I would like to know last news about your fantastic star trek ship´s line and i have some proposals. Enterprise A is already done, but is sold-out and its very difficult find it, being one of the most popular and amazing star trek ships. I think that would be a good idea release it again. Would also be nice release USS Reliant, because its a starship featured in the best ranked star trek film at the moment and its a original and elegant. I also wonder if you throw or the possibility of release the ship uss excelsior as a variant of enterprise b , since they are of same design and class. Finally, I would like to know if there is anything new about the BOP or B above or if there is any estimate of its release date. Thanks¡

DSTChuck: Antonio I can appreciate how frustrating it can be waiting for something you want and look forward too – I look on the web every morning for news on the new Springsteen album and tour! With toys you have to show product very early to lock in their order but sometimes it can take a year after that to ship a product. On top of that with the changing manufacturing environment in Asia and the complexity of the ships along with a license renewal mixed in the middle it seems like it’s been forever you have been waiting for news on Trek! I can say most of those bumps have been smoothed over and we’ll have a steady stream of at least something in Trek (ship, roll play re-run etc.) shipping over the next two years. We don’t want you pre-ordering or tying up your money any sooner than you have to so we’re not going to list them for order until we are very confident we can deliver. Thanks for sticking with us!

Nick Smith
With the re-release of the Enterprise E and All good things D, Is their any chance we see a re-release of other harder to find ships? Such as the D, Battle Damage A, And NX-01?

DSTChuck: I think – and as far as I know the only on that’s off the table forever might be the NX-01. We cannot longer get access to that tooling which means it’s not practical to re-make the item. If that changes we’ll look at it.

Rick Eubanks
Okay, I love Star Trek, and the figures you’ve been doing for them in the past. Unfortunately, the first movie’s merchandise was less than stellar. With the second movie on the way, PLEASE consider making your 7 inch line for the newer movies. I would absolutely LOVE to see your work on these. Thanks! Make it happen, Cap’n!

DSTChuck: Rick we did at least touch on that with CBS and they were not interested in going in the direction of a collector line with DST so they are looking at other manufactures for the movie stuff.
