Jon M. Chu No Longer Directing MOTU Movie

MOTU: Jay Cochran - 2013.10.08
Yesterday we told you about a story THR ran about Columbia Pictures bringing on board Lone Ranger co-writer Terry Rossio to write or more specifically re-write the script for the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe movie. Well it appears there was a minor update made to the THR story (either that or I somehow missed it). The article indicates that the director who had been previously announced for this movie, Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) was no longer attached to this project. There was no explanation given as to why, though perhaps there was some type of conflict of interest since Chu is going to also be directing the third G.I. Joe movie as well. Maybe their is some kind of clause that says he can't direct two movies based on toylines from two different toy companies?

What do you think, is it a good thing Chu is no longer attached to the MOTU movie?

Not too big a surprise. He hinted at this a couple weeks back in an interview. Probably just decided to focus on G.I. Joe 3 (which I guess might be getting fast-tracked). MotU is probably going to remain in development hell for quite a bit longer. I imagine it probably will make it to screens ... read more
