2015 MOTUC Sub Goes Through, He-Man Lives To Fight For Another Year

August 26, 2014
As if there was ever really any doubt, today Mattel officially announced that they obtained enough subscriptions over the weekend for them to move forward with their 2015 Masters of the Universe Classics Club Eternia program. Last week at the end of the original deadline for subscriptions Mattel claimed they were still 10% short of what was needed and if they did not get those remaining subscribers over the weekend MOTUC would be canceled. Well rest easy He-Man fans cause Mattel will continue the line for at least one more year.

Here is the official announcement:

MOTU fans are literally the greatest on the planet! We reached 100.09% and the 2015 sub is a GO! This is EVERYTHING! This means we just unlocked and completed the vintage line in modern collecting scale and I don't think any other toy line ever has done this!

And how did we do this? You, the fans! You made this happen! Through never-ending support, fan videos, contests, and a simply unparalleled level of support from the He-Fan and She-Raver community, we are going to be able to release every figure from the vintage MOTU line, including variants (1982-1988), every original POP vintage figure (1984-1987) and all of the A-list New Adventures, mini comic, Filmation and 200X figures (as well as a few surprises!).

It also means we can complete the bios and mini-comics by releasing all three parts of the "Fall of Eternia" storyline, with issue 6 exclusive to the sub-only Oo-Lar figure and issues 7 and 8 both coming with the $60 holiday item(included in the sub but also with All Access availability).

This isn't just getting another year of toys, this is literally completing 7 1/2 years of releases, from King Grayskull at SDCC 2008 through the final figure in December 2015. We even got an amazing 6" scale Castle Grayskull, vehicles, beasts, prototype/concept figures, a huge red dragon and what is literally the greatest variety of MOTU figures ever release in any toy line! Wow!

I could not be more proud and honored to have the opportunity to work on a line like this. At this point, no idea yet on anything past 2015 (that will take some time to review) but for now we can all celebrate the fact that 2015 is for sure is going forward and by December 2015 we can all

look at our toy shelves and feel like they truly hold a complete collection.

Special thanks to all of the fan sites, including He-Man.org, Action Figure Insider, Pixel-Dan, The Great Rebellion, Masters Toys and all the rest for their never-ending support. And huge thanks to the Four Horsemen for really coming out to post and podcast, right up to the zero hour. I am just thrilled to be part of such a group of dedicated toy fans. We deserve this and have a whole year now to rest and enjoy monthly shipments of our favorite 6" toy line.

Congrats to all and again, thank you to the fans. This toy line is for you and would absolutely not exist without your unwavering support. If there ever was a year to support, it was this one and 2015, as promised, will complete our collections. I, for one, cannot wait to look at every release and treasure them for decades to come.

We did it!! You did it! Everyone did it! What a great journey!

Forever a He-Fan,

...and you can count on even more cost cutting (more than ever before) for the rest of 2015. Pretty cool huh?

Oh SOTA, your Street Fighter sculpts were glorious, but damn, your Quality Control was crap.

Their sculpts weren't that great. Aside from their great-looking chisel-faced and monstrous figures, their smooth-faced characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-li, Cammy, and Sakura were awful. Under the PCS brand, they've gotten better since with the Ryu and Ken faces.

But to keep things in topic, back when SOTA was big, people kissed Jerry's ass like they are kissing Scott's ass now. There were a lot of TNI regular idiots here that kissed Jerry's ass here. None that I recall still post at TNI, but they were here kissing his ass. I've heard Jerry's ego mellow down since his Sota days, which is great. Perhaps Scott will mellow down once MOTUC is over - Like Jerry with Street Fighter, most of the contribution to Scott's ego is possibly because of the MOTUC line. I think even Aaron Archer of Transformers fame developed an inflated ego when he was posting on the TFw2005 forums a decade ago. One would think that having a big wig as a PR person for a line of toys is a big no-no considering that not only their egos get inflated, but they have naive toy collector under their thumbs and doing their every bidding. I read that Hasbro had to put a stop on Archer going on the TFw2005 site since it was causing rivalry between different different boards like TNI's sister site, Tformers.com and some fans were getting pissed that only bias questions that praised Archer's direction of the line were being answered.

I don't know if Scott is that arrogant since I don't venture out of the TNI forums nor read his comments on the Matty board, but if he is only answering questions that is one-side, then yeah.

Over at the .org, they've all come out to praise him.

"Scott,I just wanted to take a minute and tell you thanks for the roller coaster ride that the last 6 years has been. No matter how much crap people gave you or what you were called you always kept your Heart and Soul in this line. A lesser man might have just given the middle finger to the computer screen and walked away. You, my friend are a class act. I can't think of any other person that would stick his neck out from any other brand or toy company. I am sure it hasn't been an easy ride for you at times between the front office and the fan community.

I always thought Mighty Spector was kind of cool "

"allow me to chime in with the thank you to Toyguru for getting us a complete line!

(now on to 2016... )"

Scott, you my friend have done something that no other company has(at least to my limited knowledge) you have fought along side of us to complete an entire "classic" line! I would have never expected this and it is totally worth the monthly fight with my wife thank you for EVERYTHING. I will love, cherish, and share this line with my 4 children for all my remaining years. You've made He-Man cool to at least my 4 growing nerds.

LOL Those are classic examples of toy groupies. Notice how everyone one of those praises call Scott a friend. Scott is just doing business, not agreeing to give them his liver. I haven't seen such folks since the SOTA days. LOL

PRAISE HIM! PRAISE OUR LORD AND SAVIOR!! PRAISE SCOTT!!!

As pathetic as they are, I'm glad they are stupid enough to buy extra subs because Darth Neitlich uses his mind tricks on them. Any extra subs can't be a bad thing, it's money in Mattel's pocket. Just glad we have another year of figures and hope this is REALLY the last year for classics with all the vintage figures being released. Right now that is my only concern, getting the remaining vintage in 2015, and not have to get any in 2016.

It is hilarious how people are so worried about the figures not being made if the min had not been met. One would think people would have learned that regardless of the subs hitting the minimum or not, the line will still continue - it has happened with all the other lines that died. The Ghostbusters and DCUC lines are great examples. I take it that all the figures they've made and shown are going to be made since they have already spent a lot of money in them or do not need to spend a lot. A lot of Mattel figures use the bulk bod with a new head or whatever. For instance, Mattel can just spend money on new tooling for a 200x Skeletor figure.

Although companies have in the past cancelled figures up right, both Hasbro and Mattel as of recent seem to rearrange their figures in different sub-lines or exclusives. Perhaps the figures shown are way into the development and couldn't be cancelled. Regardless, only giant figures or playsets that uses new tooling like the Etco-1 hasn't been made and for obvious reasons - they didn't want to start production of it until they have enough preorders since they don't have any recycled toolings for it. On the other hand, Doomsday can be produced easily since they just need to make a few new toolings for the figure. I think whatever figures they have planned that they have not announced yet (since they haven't start developing the figures yet) would have been cancelled if the goal wasn't met.

They might be people like myself that finally snap out of the "completionist" mentality for the line a decide to keep only a select few.

I doubt you're going to see an huge influx of Sorceress/Teela/Fisto toys on the market, though.

I think next month, I'm chucking my Granamyr, Jetsled, and Windraider up on eBay. If I haven't opened them by now, I'm never going to.
