AVP Temple Guard Predator from NECA Toys Review by "Pixel Dan" Eardley

Series 15 of NECA Toys' long running Predator line gives us three figures out of the AVP film. Despite how you may feel about the movie itself, this wave brings us some of NECA's best Predator action figures to date Continuing my look at this series, let's check out the Temple Guard Predator.

Packaging: The Temple Guard comes in the same blister card packaging featuring the new blue deco and the AVP movie logo that we saw while looking at the Ancient Warrior. The packaging has a really nice dark yet colorful feel that hearkens back to the promo material for the AVP film. The back of the packaging describes the clan of Predators featured in this wave while also showcasing a look at the three action figures. Overall, it's a really nice presentation that fits in well with the recent Predator releases.

Sculpt and Paint: Temple Guard has a very similar look to the Ancient Warrior with a few distinct differences. While the body type itself, along with the skin tone and scaly sculpt, as well as most of the armor is very much in line with his clan mate, he features his own unique mask design and a different color scheme on his armor.

The mask itself has an awesome design that almost looks like an old fossil, while still having a sleek, metallic look. The metal color on Temple Guard is silvery, but has a very subtle yet effective rust like coloration. The mask features this copper-like color the most, but it's also noticeable on the shoulder armor and the wrist guards. Mixed with a nice wash, it gives all of the armor a very detailed and realistic feel.

Articulation: The figure features over 30 points of articulation. All of the joints feel very sturdy, and I didn't run into any that were stuck in place this time around. All of them are tight, and function perfectly.

Articulation featured on this figure includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed shoulders, bicep swivels, double jointed elbows, swivel at the wrist guard, ball jointed wrists, ball jointed torso, waist swivel, ball jointed thighs, ball jointed knees, and ball jointed ankles. All of this articulation functions pretty well with a good range of movement. As always, the shoulder canon does hinder the movement of the head a bit, but otherwise the figure has a great range of motion and can hold a pose perfectly.

Accessories: While series 15 seems to be stocked with weapons and accessories, the Temple Guard edges the others out just a bit in accessory counts. Many of his accessories are the same that we see included with the others, such as the bladed weapon, the knife, the trophy skulls, and both the shortened and elongated staff. These weapons are all just as well done as we saw with our Ancient Warrior. The hand sculpts are slightly different on this figure, but he still features a gripping hand that can easily hold any of the accessories. And once again, the knife can be stored on his leg, and the staff can be stored on his back. A place to keep extra accessories is something I always appreciate.

The extra stuff we get here are the multiple wrist blades. We have a pair of short blades that can plug into the top of his right wrist. This is a new feature with Series 15, and these wrist blades are also interchangeable between the other two figures in this assortment, allowing for different display options. But our Temple Guard also has blade ports on the bottom side of both wrists, as well as two different sized blades you can plug in. This makes for a great extra display option that makes him stand out from the others. Worth noting, the lower blades do not seem to fit into the top ports.

NECA Toys has really given us some awesome Predator figures over the years. Series 15 continues that trend by making some amazing action figures from a movie that isn't necessarily the most beloved installment from the franchise. From personal experience, an AVP wave isn't something I was jumping up and down for, but getting them in hand there is no denying that these are well worth owning. Temple Guard has a great look with clean paint, sturdy articulation, and so many accessories you'll find yourself having a hard time deciding which way to pose him on your shelf. And he looks even better when matched up with Ancient Warrior and Scar.
