McFarlane Toys Sanders & Rice Boxed Set Features Classic Matchup

McFarlane Toys Sports Picks upcoming boxed set takes football fans back to a classic matchup from 1996: San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice squaring off against Dallas Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders.

The figures in our boxed set represent a matchup that took place on November 10th, 1996 inside San Francisco's Candlestick Park. The Cowboys and 49ers had met in four of the previous five NFC Championship games and the rivalry between the two teams was considered the best in football. It featured Deion Sanders' first football return to the Bay since leaving the 49ers following their Super Bowl title in 1995. The one-on-one matchup of the best receiver of all time and one of the all-time greatest cornerbacks captivated a football audience, who watched the Cowboys force overtime and win the game 20-17 on Chris Boniol's 29-yeard field goal.

The boxed set offers new versions of a pair of our most popular Sports Picks figures of all time. Jerry Rice was released in a different pose in 2002's NFL Series 5. His figure was painted in the Raiders black jersey, but the chase version featured the 49ers maroon and gold uniform. This chase figure has long been one of the most sought-after chase figures. The new version of Rice showcases him in a different pose and also in San Francisco's updated uniform (with the white pants and 50th anniversary patch) Deion Sanders was released as a tremendously popular Collector's Club exclusive figure this summer in Falcons and Ravens paint schemes, but this boxed set is the first time we've offered "Primetime" in his Dallas uniform.
