DSTChuck has released a new Diamond Select Toys Q&A over on their Art Asylum website for your viewing pleasure.

In this weeks edition focuses on Star Trek questions. Check out the entire Q&A below:

Michael Pompey
Coming into the whole Trek figure thing a little late - busy with stuff other than collecting for the last, oh,,,decade. In any case, I really wanted to find Data, but I refuse to pay $50 plus from a scalper. I’ve noticed that quite a few figures have been re-issued in one way or another, so I wanted to see if the standard, season 7 Data would be re-issued as well. Thanks

DSTChuck: Michael, better late then never I suppose, so welcome to the game. Sorry though, right now we have no plans to re-issue any of the TNG figures.

Garry Aernouts
I need info on a 1984 “Battle Ravaged” Capt. James T. Kirk figure from the Art Asylum series Wave 3. It has additional Starfleet gear included in the packaging. I can not find it in your catalog and I could use any info you may have as to what I could expect to pay to acquire one.

DSTChuck: Garry, I am very sorry but that was done before DST became involved in the Trek license but I can tell you we have no stock so you would have to try a secondary source.

Daryl Bowlin
With regard to future ships I believe that 1 of your considerations is can you make variants to boost sales. To that end you can’t do better than the Reliant which has appeared in 4 versions: the original, the freighter Lantree in “Contagion” which was the Reliant w/o the rollbar, the Saratoga from “Emissary” which had a pair of sensor pods in place of the rollbar, & the Bozeman from “Cause & Effect” which had a different pair of pods & a rear hull extension that had towers on the top & bottom capped by antenna turrets. The beauty of this is you do the Lantree as the base mold & everything else just attaches onto it. The Ent-C was also made in 2 versions: the Yamaguchi being the variant. Again to make the variant all that is required is the attachment of a handful of small parts: caps for the Bussard Collector’s, centerpiece for the nav deflector, different color impulse engine exhaust vent, different lower sensor array on the saucer, addition of a housing under the shuttlle hangar. Just thouht I’d throw this out there.

DSTChuck: Dave I think the Reliant would be on the short list of ships when we decide which ones to develop next.

Hi Guys I would first like to say how much I have enjoyed all of your star trek toys and most of all the ships I have almost every one you have made so far and look forward to picking up all of the models to come I read that you guys plan on making an Enterprise B and a Klingon bird of prey and also a USS Excelsior however I would just like to ask/point out that Playmates made an error back in the 90’s that I would hope you guys didn’t make as well because there are enough differences from the USS Excelsior and the enterprise B that not a whole lot of people would know about but more than a few pointed out after playmates made this mistake From Here I am going to ref. the official Star Trek Wiki: The Enterprise-B was a reuse of the USS Excelsior model designed by Bill George for Star Trek III: The Search for Spock(EDITED FOR SPACE) : Playmates in 1994 released both Enterprise B and ‘Excelsior” both the same model but with different decals I would hope you guys could use this information to make a more accurate product for myself and other trek lovers thanks very much for your time and I hope to be seeing all three of these toys on a shelf in my living room very soon. -Rich

DSTChuck: Rich we always try and make the most accurate product as possible and take as few liberties as possible and we’ll do the same with the B and Excelsior. We’re still developing them, that’s why I can not give you a clear answer on details right now.

Vernon Grier
Dear Diamond Select/Art Asylum: I would like to say that I love your line of star trek ships, I have the TOS star ship, the 25th anniversary Wrath of Khan ship and the marvelously built Next Generation Enterprise D (just gorgeous)!. My question, do you plan to release a version of the Star Trek Voyager ship and the Deep Space Nine Defiant ship (…”tough little ship”). These additions would be great to your existing lineup and I am sure would be money makers. Thanks for the great job!

DSTChuck: Right now we’re working on the next two ships and I can honestly say we have not planned past that. For Defiant scale, is the lingering issue and with Voyager it’s a perceived lack of interest in the show. We’ll be looking at ships maybe in a few months and none have been excluded from the conversation.

Is it true that the Diamond Select Captain Sisko & Defiant Command Chair has been Cancelled. I need this so bad, will we ever see it this year?

DSTChuck: Yes it has been cancelled. I don’t think there is any chance that it will come out in 2010.

Mark Johnson
Have you ever considered making a toy version of the Star Trek medical kit that is being offered now at $500? Since you guys have done such a superb job replicating the TOS phaser, communicator and tricorder, I know you could really shine on the hypospray medical kit at a REASONABLE price !

DSTChuck: Those are considered replicas and are a different license. The product we make is under the category of a toy, but we do our best to make them as accurate as possible.

Roddy DeHart
Will the Mego Line continue with uniforms from the Wrath of Khan Movie? I would like to see that!

DSTChuck: We’re not sure at this point if we will go that direction.

DevilDog Doyle
With two companies that hold the STAR TREK license to make figures (Playmates Toys, Diamond Select Toys) and with declining sales for all figure lines: A) Will either or both companies lose their license to make figures? B) Will either acquire the license from the other? C) Will another company step in to make figures? Thank you.

DSTChuck: I have no idea what Playmates plans are for Trek but as far as I know nothing is scheduled at this time. We would of course be interested in making the new Enterprise ship but I don’t think we’d be interested in figures at this time. I am not aware of another company that might be interested in the Trek license but I expected we’d be the last company they would want to tell.

Chris Coombs
Have you guys ever considered making the Star Trek figures limited to 500 or 1000 for $50.00 each like you did Marlena Moreau? I believe if you did that, there would be enough people who would buy these figures. I know I would. I need to get Rand, Chapel, Romulan and the other unreleashed DS9 figures. Thanks Chris

DSTChuck: Yes Chris we thought about ideas like that and its something we might consider but numbers like 500 or 1000 are just too low for a product to be made so it would have to be a little larger even at a higher SRP.

Brandon Giles
Hi Chuck. I have a question about the Retro-cloth figures ya’ll are producing with EMCE.1) When will the Chris Pike Wave be out? 2) Will these be available at Toys R Us? 3) Any chances for the retro line to include characters from TNG and other Trek series (This would be a great way to get a Phlox and Hoshi figure finally- I know that’s a long shot! ) 4) Could we maybe get a deluxe retro line that had a more modern body sculpt, with more realistic uniform and weapons detailing in the EMCE type format (I’d really love to see some Klingons,Romulans, Andorians and a Mugatu that more acurately represents what was seen on these wonderful series episodes!) Thanks for your time, Chuck! Hope we’ll hear from you again soon in the trektoy.com chat room!

DSTChuck:We will not schedule the retro figures until they are approved and ready to manufacture but I would think you will see some new retro cloth figures for both of us in 2010. 2) Best I can say is it’s a long shot but MAYBE. 3) Its been discussed but to be honest we’ve not decided. 4) No sorry nothing like that is planned at this time. I’d be happy to chat again- all you need to do is ask.
