Toy Biz's Lord of the Rings Return Of The King Figures
Written by: Brandon Miller

Toy Biz has made most Lord of the Rings fans satisfied by creating most of the characters from the three epic films. The regular (before the Trilogy series') Return of the King Series 2 consists of Super Poseable Pellenor Fields Aragorn, Super Poseable Gollum, Eowyn in Amor, and Gandalf the White. Below I will review the man to be king, the twisted creature who loves the One Ring, and the brave niece of King Theoden!

Accessories: Aragorn includes his sword Anduril, Elven hunting knife, and removable cape. Gollum includes only a wall to climb, and included with Eowyn is a sword, spear, a helmet, and a removable cape. All of the accessories look nice. Though there is no sheath for Aragorn to store his sword which I don't believe he had one in the film but he does have a sheath for the knife and the knife is different than the one included with the Helms Deep Aragorn but more on that later. Gollum has two tiny magnets in his feet for his accessory but Gollum's large wall that is in three pieces has no magnets to stick to plus it is a bit difficult to put together but it does a good job at working what its supposed to do! As for Eowyn, her sword looks very realistic and is a new sculpt. Her spear is much different and shorter than the one that came with the Rohirrim Soldier. Her helmet also looks very realistic and old and I think its a great sculpt!

Articulation: The movements of these figure are good. Super Poseable Pellenor Fields Aragorn has a double jointed neck, ball jointed shoulders though they are restricted due to the sculpt, biceps twists, double jointed elbows, wrists, waist, ball jointed thighs, knees, shins, ankles have the up and down and side to side articulation and at the toes. Super Poseable Gollum has a ball jointed neck, ball jointed shoulders, biceps, elbows, forearms, wrists, hinged fingers, torso, waist, ball jointed hips, upper legs, knees, shins, ankles, and toes. The movement for Eowyn is decent as well. Ball jointed neck, ball jointed shoulders but with the action feature being the right shoulder it does limit it a bit, biceps, elbows, wrists, waist, ball jointed hips, upper legs, knees, shins, ankles have the up/down/side to side motion!

Durability: I really have no problem with Aragorn and Gollum but I advise to look out for Eowyn. The figure I have has a little flaw. Her left upper leg joint is stiff and when turned it comes back which this is a minor flaw and I think the old freezer trick may fix it! I have had this problem before with other LOTR figures but there is a trick you can do if it happens to you but it doesn't always work but it does for some. If a figure's wrist or leg doesn't move the way it is supposed to then stick em in the old freezer for about fifteen minutes to a half hour or so and then carefully move the joint but because I have had experience in these matters I recommend to move it slowly and if it still doesn't move then leave it alone. I thought it would be good to give a tip to you collectors!

Packaging: The packaging is awesome looking in My opinion. Its large, it is very attractive and it really makes the figures looks great as well! It has a flap plus the packaging has a great picture of the of the character. On the back it has the character's story and the figures to collect in the series. I really prefer this kind over the current Trilogy packaging.

Paint: Here is the category that I have a problem with. If you choose to purchase these figures from a local store I recommend taking a long look at them. Super Poseable Pellenor Fields Aragorn seems to have sloppiness only on his cloak and his ring. Eowyn's lovely face has what looks to be scruff marks or paint from her armor but the one that has the worst paint application on the figure I have seen at retail is the Super Poseable figure of Gollum. The pupils in his eyes are uneven and what I mean by that is one is up and the other is down, the color of his body is also uneven with a reddish color foot and a regular colored one and the same thing goes for his hands and such. To be honest, I am picky when it comes paint jobs and I was frustrated at this and I telling this so you don't make a mistake! There are some very good paint on these figures however like on Aragorn's and Eowyn's armor. The paint applied make all of the armor look very real especially on Eowyn's helmet! Though simple but don't get Me wrong, the paint on Gollum is very good especially around his eyes. When the paint is used nicely these figures look very legit!

Sculpting: The sculpting on these three are very good. Aragorn has very good sculpting though I wouldn't say its the best likeness of the actor Viggo Mortensen. I don't think it jelled to well. Eowyn's likeness however is extraordinary! I am very impressed and even though she has another figure in a dress this Eowyn figure's face looks even more incredible! She looks so much like Miranda Otto! In My book its perfect! Gollum's likeness is great as well but the thing is the head sculpt is of his Smeagol personality but it looks wonderful! As for the weapons, Aragorn's Anduril sword looks good even though it is colored differently then the one included with the Deluxe Horse and Rider set and back to his Elven knife, it is different than the one with Helms Deep Aragorn because it has sculpted scroll work on it which is a cool thing! Gollum's rocky wall looks ok but the color looks accurate to the film. Eowyn's sword and spear look very real! I really like the sculpting on her he! lmet. It is one outstanding piece! The armor on her body itself looks life like! A tremendous job by Toy Biz!

Overall: If you are a LOTR fan and/or collector these figures are a must buy despite the paint issues. All three of these figures have a very good amount of articulation with a good number of accessories and some of the best sculpting ever seen! How can you take the wrong turn especially when one of them is a woman? These will figures will look fantastic in your collection!
