AVP Masked Scar Predator from NECA Toys Review by "Pixel Dan" Eardley

Series 15 of NECA Toys' long running Predator line gives us three figures out of the AVP film. Despite how you may feel about the movie itself, this wave brings us some of NECA's best Predator action figures to date
Continuing my look at this series, let's check out the final figure in the line-up: Masked Scar Predator.

Packaging: The blister card packaging matches exactly what we've seen for the rest of the figures in this series. It features a dark blue theme that matches with the AVP logo, and a nice masked Predator face on the card back that allows the packaging to fit in with all of the NECA's recent Predator releases while still standing on it's own. The back gives us a description of the Predator clan of this wave, as well as a cross-sell of the three figures.

Sculpt and Paint: Scar stands on his own out of the three Predators in this wave since he is the most armored up of them all. Where Temple Guard and Ancient Warrior had armor only over one shoulder, Scar is practically wearing full upper body armor that covers his chest and covers both arms. All of the armor bits are well sculpted, featuring the same metallic detailing that give off a very worn metal look that we've come to expect from NECA.

Scar's armor is colored a bright silver, making him the brightest of all three Predators. There's still a nice wash that gives it a gritty, slightly worn look. But it still also has a nice shine to it. His mask has it's own design as well, with the important detail being the marking on his forehead that distinguishes him from the rest.

Articulation: The figure features over 30 points of articulation. The joints are sturdy, but I did run into a few stuck joints, specifically he shoulders. They took a little work to loosen up, so it's something to be noted in case you run into a similar issue. I did however get them worked loose, and now they function as they should.

Articulation featured on this figure includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed shoulders, bicep swivels, double jointed elbows, swivel at the wrist guard, ball jointed wrists, ball jointed torso, waist swivel, ball jointed thighs, ball jointed knees, and ball jointed ankles.
Oh, and that pesky shoulder canon, while cool, does have a tendency to pop off when moving the head. So that may get in the way just a bit.

Accessories: Scar is the one figure in this series that comes the fewest amount of accessories, but that's not a bad thing. It's just been impressive how many weapons each figure has come with. Scar here has a few of the same accessories we have already seen across the wave including the blade weapon, the knife that can be sheathed on his calf, and the shortened version of the staff. Worth noting is that Scar is the only figure in this series that doesn't include the expanded version of the staff, but he does still retain the ability to store the short one on his back.

He is the only figure out of the three to come with an interchangeable hand, however. He includes a closed right fist so you can swap out the gripping hand if you wish. The hands on just on simple ball joints, and while they hold nice and tight they are still quite easy to swap out. In fact, Temple Guard and Ancient Warrior also have ball jointed hands that can be swapped out. Since all of them do have differing hands, you can swap between all three figures to find your desired pose for each.

Continuing the interchangeability feature, Scar comes with one part of extra long wrist blades that can be firmly plugged into the slots on his wrist guard. These blades can also be shared amongst all three figures in this wave, so you can mix and match all of their wrist blades. It's a fun feature that works surprisingly well, since the blades hold so tightly in the slots and don't seem to droop or fall out of socket int he slightest.

AVP may not be the most widely loved film in the Predator franchise, but there's no denying it gave us some cool looking new Predators. Scar was sort of our hero in the film...in a sense. He was certainly a fan favorite. And just like the other two figures in this wave, I feel like NECA Toys did a tremendous job bringing him to life. The sculpted details and paint are all wonderfully done, and the overall quality is something worth noting to be sure. The figure feels well made and articulates as he should. Plus, the interchangeable features allow for multiple methods of display, especially when pairing with your Ancient Warrior or Temple Guard.

We've had a lot of Predators toys from NECA over the years, but as long as they keep being made like this, I say keep 'em coming!
