G.I. Joe: Pursuit Of Cobra Snake-Eyes (Ninja Commando) No. 1101

I will be the first to complain about how many Snake-Eyes figures we seem to get saddled with every year by Hasbro. Even though my first impression of the figure that debuted at last summer’s G.I. Joe Convention was that it was a nice looking figure, my first thought was I already have a nice looking Snake-Eyes figure and don’t need another one. But after getting my hands on this one, I have to admit I was wrong. Apparently I do have a need for one more Snake-Eyes. Hasbro managed to make the closest thing to a perfect action figure as possible with this new version of the ninja commando, taking the best characteristics of previous incarnations and combining it into one great figure.

Since the early days of the character’s creation, the two dominate versions of Snake-Eyes depicted in figure form have been the original commando version and the Ninja version that first appeared in the “Revenge of Cobra” cartoon mini-series. Over the years, we have seen many figures of both versions. In the new Pursuit of Cobra figure, we get both versions in one figure thanks to the two interchangeable heads.

Besides multiple heads, this figure is loaded with cool accessories. First, the figure comes with some very realistic removable webgear featuring twin shoulder straps, detailed pouches and elastic leg straps. The webgear also allows you to attach two swords on its back and a removable knife on the right shoulder.

The figure also features a second removable knife on its right leg and three swords, one being very similar to his traditional Arashikage one. As mentioned above, the two regular swords have sheaths that attach to the back of the figure’s webgear and even though the Arashikage sword does not have a sheath, you can slide it under the straps of the webgear on the figure’s back. For guns, the figure comes with an Uzi with a detachable silencer, FN SCAR Assault rifle and two pistols, one of which also has a detachable silencer. The figure also has a holster on its right leg that holds both the pistol and the detached silencer. In addition, the figure comes with an ammo pouch which is a throwback to the original “Real American Hero” Snake-Eyes accessories and the figure stand.

In articulation, the figure has everything you have come to expect from G.I. Joe figures. The only thing it seems to be missing is the new wrist joints found on the SDCC exclusive SGT Slaughter figure (UPDATE: Apparently I was blind when I first looked at this figure because after further inspection I discovered it does have the wrist joints). The details on this figure are pretty amazing to. From realistic-looking pouches to a realistic shirt that looks decent even when the figure isn’t wearing its webgear. The right arm has the Arashikage on it, and the left arm has the G.I. Joe symbol.

Even if you bought the previous two Snake-Eyes figures released in the Pursuit of Cobra line or the umpteen other Snake-Eyes figures released over the years, I still highly recommend you pick this one up and add him to your collection as it really seems to be the ultimate version of the character.
