TEN-HUT! HISTORIC 40th ANNIVERSARY EXHIBIT OF G.I. JOE ACTION FIGURES OPENS TO PUBLIC AT INTREPID SEA, AIR & SPACE MUSEUM
1964 “Action Soldier”, “Kung-Fu Grip”, “Colin Powell,” “G.I. JOE vs. C.O.B.R.A.” Action Figures Highlight Four Decades of Fun
The world’s first and most celebrated action figure – G.I. JOE – is marking its 40th anniversary in 2004 with an historic exhibit at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Opening on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, the exhibit will feature an assortment of vintage G.I. JOE figures.
Included in the exhibit are two displays covering 40 years of G.I. JOE action figures such as the original 1964 Action Soldier, the 1980s G.I. JOE vs. C.O.B.R.A. line and a modern-day representations of key figures in history including of Colin Powell, JFK and others; a large diorama showcasing 12-inch G.I. JOE action figures in dynamic settings, and a video kiosk featuring a brief history of G.I. JOE and vintage G.I. JOE commercials from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, dedicated to honoring America’s heroes on land, on sea, in the air and in space, will be the only location where the public can view this exhibit.
Additionally, while visiting the G.I. JOE exhibit, visitors to the Intrepid can do their part to help get this legendary “REAL AMERICAN HERO” nominated for induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame. Nomination forms will be available at the Intrepid and on line at gijoe.com throughout the summer where visitors can do their part to help secure the G.I. JOE brand’s rightful place in toy history.
