Street Fighter 4 inch Action Figure - Ryu vs. Sagat

Street Fighter figures are back at retail this time in a 4" scale thanks to Jazwares Inc. The figures sell as 2-packs, and they seem to be selling at Toys R' Us stores for $14.99 each. While they don't have an exclusive, Toys R' Us appear to be the only brick and mortar store carrying them. The figures each have around 15 points of articulation and comes with a second pair of interchangeable hands. The figures are packaged on a basic blister card with art featuring Ken, Ryu and Chun-Li. There seems to be at least two different assortments of Street Fighter figures shipping right now. One assortment is titled simply "Street Fighter" and has a yellow coloring to it and features a comic book type art of the three characters I mentioned above on the front. The other assortment features the Super Street Fighter IV logo on the package and has a red coloring to it. The art of the 3 characters, again Ken, Ryu and Chun-Li, is a different style and features the characters in different poses.

The back of the package features more art of the characters you are purchasing in a Vs. manner with brief stats for each character under their corresponding images. Under that is more vs. art of other 2-packs you can get in that assortment. Other than the logos, the package coloring, and character art style, the back of the package in both assortments is basically the same.

The Street Fighter assortment contains the following two-packs: Ryu Vs. Sagat, Ken Vs. Blanka, Chun-Li Vs. Vega, and M.Bison Vs. Akuma.

The Super Street Fighter IV assortment contains the following two-packs: Guile Vs. Abel, El Fuerte Vs. Seth, Ryu (Black Costume) Vs. C. Viper, and Rufus Vs. Ken.

The figures are fairly simple to open and get out of the package. There is no annoying twisty ties or rubber bands holding the figures in the plastic shell. You just pop them out and they are ready for action.

The figures are fairly pose-able. They feature ankle joints, chest joint, ball shoulder joints and can do poses like the splits at the leg. They also have twist joints at the knees and elbows. The heads pop on a ball but no neck joint limits head movements some. The joints on the figures overall are tight though they may become loose after continued use. On my Ryu figure, the twist joint on its right knee has become pretty loose which makes it more difficult to put the figure in cool kicking poses. I haven't had any problems with any other joints on Ryu or Sagat, but I have noticed after working with the figures for a bit overall the joints seem to be looser than when I started. The figures also have no peg holes on their feet so don't expect any kind of stands to work with these guys.

At first glance, the paint apps seem pretty good, but I noticed the paint seems to wear in the joint areas. You definitely can see a lighter color in the joint areas, and I believe this is due to joint movements rubbing on the paint. Other than that, the paint apps seem to be pretty good and they did a good job with the skin tones of the figures. The detail of the figures are not on the same level of the 6" Sota figures released several years ago but for 3.75" figures that cost about $7.50 each they aren't bad.

One of the things these figures sorely lack is the accessories department. As I mentioned before, each figure does come with interchangeable open hands and close fists, but that is it. No kind of accessory that allows you to mimic the characters special moves like a fireball accessory to mimic Ryu's Hadouken. If you have previously released Street Fighter figures or even other figure lines like Star Wars, GI. Joe or Marvel Universe, you can cannibalize parts from those figures for your Street Fighter figures, but otherwise you are just down to your imagination when it comes to doing special moves. I am sure the lack of accessories has to do with the lower price point on these than with other 4" lines, but it does take some fun out of the line.

The scale overall for these figures seems to be pretty good. Larger characters like Sagat definitely tower over other smaller characters like Ryu. The best thing about this line though is they are in scale with other figures lines like Marvel Universe and G.I. Joe. Now you can re-create your favorite moments from the Marvel Vs. Capcom video games with your Steet Fighter and Marvel Universe figures. You want Street Fighter to rejoin G.I. Joe like they did in the early 90's? No problem.

These figures from Jazwares aren't perfect, most notably the lack of accessories and some joint looseness, but overall they get the job done and the price on them can't be beat.
