2013 SDCC Playmates TMNT Panel

Playmates Toys, the master toy licensee for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is hosting a panel during Comic-Con and we are bringing you live coverage of it.

On the panel - From Playmates Jeff Trojan, Karl Aaronian, Pat Linden, Chris Kay, John Stelzner, and Ray Geiman.

Playmates history. It all started in 1984 with the Eastman and Laird comic books. March 1987 Playmates gets the master toy licence. December 5, 1987 a 5-part animated mini-series hits the air on syndicated TV.

1988 toys ship. 1990 the toys peak and the first movie hits theaters. CBS begins airing Saturday morning TV show. TMNT toys reach 50% market of shar of action figures.

1991 and 1993 had movie 2 and 3.

2003 see new 4kids TV series. 2007 saw the new CG animated movie. 2009 the IP changed hand from the creators to Viacom and a new era of TMNT begins.

July 2012 launches new product for new Nick animated series. TOTY winning property of the year.

2014 new creative executions and new tv season 3.

Comic Con Shredder available at the Nickelodeon Booth. Has removable helmet and metalized armor.

Classic Collection - first wave included the 4 Turtles which are reshipping again right now.

Series 2 Rocksteady and Bebop coming Fall 2013.

Series 3 will be 1990 Movie Turtles.

A handfull of 4" Turtles will kick off a new line under the Classic banner. We will see Splinter, Shredder and 4 Turtles to start things off followed by The Foot and Krang. These are based on original sculpts. The Original Turtle Van will also see release. Mechs from 2004 will be released as well. These will be out in 2014 as some type of store exclusive.

Vehicles - Grass Kicker and Shell Flyer in 2014.

Group Vehicles - RC Turtle Van

2014 Electronic Turtles hands for their role-play line and water weapons, nun-chucks and sword. Real working walk-talkies are coming and a pop hands and bags. A ninja disc blaster.

Shredder and Splinter could likely make it's way into the Classics line within the next 12 months.
