2015 SDCC: Micronauts & Rom: The Space Knight Toys Set To Return From Hasbro

UPDATE: I had a chance to talk with Hasbro's Derryl DePriest this weekend about the return of Micronauts and ROM. So he first confirmed the news but says they aren't quit ready to reveal their plans yet. He did say we can expect things to start off with Micronauts in a fairly big way and then move on to ROM. We should likely hear more about these next year during Toy Fair.

When asked if we could see a Marvel Legends style ROM, Derryl smiled and said it's something he would certainly like to see. If they could find a way to release something like that it would definitely be done separately from the Marvel line.

When asked if this IDW/Hasbro collaboration for the return of Micronauts and ROM could possibly open the door to other Hasbro licenses like M.A.S.K., he once again smiled and said anything is possible and also indicated that they are aware of the fan demand to see that toy line return.

So yesterday (Friday) I was at the Hasbro booth at the San Diego Comic Con talking with some of the folks from the company when one of them tells me to be sure to check out the IDW panel tomorrow (being Saturday) for some exciting news about the return of an old license. Of course they wouldn't go into a whole lot of details but my first guess immediately to say M.A.S.K.? After all rumors had popped up earlier in the year about that one and its one we hear at TNI often get asked about, but suffice to despite not willing to give out many details they did flat out say it wasn't M.A.S.K. I know why, right?

Anyway, I've been doing this long enough to know that at this point they weren't going to give me much more in the way of details, so I figured I would just wait till Saturday's IDW Transformers and G.I.Joe comic panel to hear more. I did however pose the question on our Facebook page asking what license they thought Hasbro might bring back. Many of you had good guesses such as Go-Bots. Another one that has rumors pop up earlier this year about returning. That seemed like as good a guess as any, but then we had a reader write in (Thanks Rob) and say apparently there was an IDW panel that took place on Friday where they actually announced the mysterious news. I don't know if the folks from Hasbro got their days mixed up on when the announcement was going to be made or if someone from IDW jumped the gun and announced the news early, but never-the-less the licence(s) apparently returning will be Micronauts and ROM: The Space Knight.

So obviously I wasn't at this IDW panel so I don't know exactly what was said. I am told IDW is going to be doing comics for these brands (both had titles previously done by Marvel) and I assume (especially with the hint from the Hasbro folks) toys will also be forthcoming in some type of capacity as well. I know at one time their was even talk of a Micronauts movie being done by Hasbro, but I am not sure whatever became of that.

Anyway now that I know more, you can believe I will be returning to the folks at Hasbro later today to see if I can dig up more details for you on this, so stay-tuned. In the mean time let us know, are the Micronauts and ROM properties something you are excited to see return???
