Retro “Weird Al” Yankovic Action Figure review by UltimateToyCollector.

NECA has definitely earned the reputation of being one of the top toy companies out right now. It seems like they continuously put out hit after hit. Whether it's Predators, Aliens, Jason Voorhees, various 1/4th scale figures, or the super hot SDCC Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set due out next month. And let's not forget their killer selection of Mego-style action figures. You like Freddy? Got it! Jason? Got it! Leatherface? Got it! Even Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight! But would you have ever thought that we'd see action figures of franchises like Bill & Ted and this new Weird Al figure?! Probably not but it's happening!!! Randy Falk even posted on his social media pages about being a Weird Al fan since '82 and how much of an honor it was to play a part in creating a Weird Al figure and also collaborating with Shout Factory to bring us the George Carlin figure. So that being said, I'm sure these figures will have just a lil more of a personalized touch considering how Randy and NECA feel towards these licenses.

Weird Al comes in an awesome collector friendly window box. It has a very throwback 80's / early 90's look to it. Bright graphics and INJECTED WITH POLKA POWER! The figure is secured inside a plastic tray that slides out of the box easily.

The figure comes with an extra hand, a microphone, an accordion, and an extra head. You can even choose which head you want to purchase actually on the figure. There's two variations although ultimately the same figure. If your an "in the box" collector you can pick up Al with his glasses on and a more puffy hair style ('89 UHF-era) or you can choose the version without glasses and hair style more relaxed (modern Al). Either way the other head still comes with the figure. The hair sculpt and paint on both heads is amazing. The glasses are clean and clear making it very realistic. The heads swap out easily but if you have any worries just apply a little head using a blow dryer.

The accordion is a very cool accessory. Almost necessary. It's one of those accessories that absolutely makes a figure. It doesn't open and close but the detail and paint application are amazing. The microphone is basic.

One thing that also makes NECA's Mego-style action figures stand out is the attention to detail with the clothing. These aren't your dad's Mego's with disheveled looking wardrobes! NECA's figures look far from goofy. On the contrary, each figure had amazingly tailored outfits. Some outfits are weathered, dirty, and grungy. Some have layered clothing like shirts with fur jackets on top. And each figure has realistically sculpted boots or shoes for a less doll-like appearance.

Al has a light weight material shirt that seems as though it was tailored just for him. It's bright and catches the eye just how Weird Al would want it. His pants also fit perfectly and are a smooth silky material. Al’s shoes are a perfect addition to His wardrobe and look just like the slip on Vans that he’s been rocking since the 80's. They're sculpted on his feet and the paint is very neat and clean.

NECA's Mego-style action figures have also become known for their articulation. They use the same buck body for each figure so it's pretty basic. Ball joints at the head, shoulders, and thighs. Ball hinges at the hands and feet. Hinged elbows and knees and a cut in the waist for add turning articulation. Most clothing does not effect the range of motion and allows for good possibly. All of the above goes for Al as well.

Now as I said before, these Mego-style action figures are not your fathers dolls but as I like to call them "deluxe versions" of their 7" scale plastic counterparts. I think Weird Al is a great buy especially for the detailing that went into not only the alternate heads but also his accessories. This is another amazing figure by NECA. This is why I put NECA at the top of the toy food chain.

"People that were a little nerdy in high school would look up to me and know it gets better."
