Joss Whedon Drops Out Of 'Batgirl' Standalone Film Project

February 23, 2018
Last March, we reported that Joss Whedon was going to be writing, directing and producing an untitled "Batgirl" project for Warner Bros. as part of its DC Extended Universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whedon has decided to exit the Warner Bros. feature project. Sources say Whedon, after a year of trying, could not crack the code of what a Batgirl movie should be.

"Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn't have a story," Whedon told THR in a statement. Referring to DC president Geoff Johns and Warner Bros. Picture Group president Toby Emmerich, he added, "I'm grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I…uh, is there a sexier word for 'failed'?"
