Jonathan Entwistle To Helm New 'Power Rangers' Film & TV Series

Jonathan Entwistle is now set to be pulling double duty as he will now be directing both the film and television adaptations of Power Rangers for the eOne and Hasbro's entertainment studio.

“Jonathan has an incredible creative vision for this iconic and hugely successful franchise, and is hands down the right architect to join us as we reimagine the television and film worlds of this property,” said Nick Meyer, President, Film, eOne and Michael Lombardo, President, Global Television, eOne. “Across our slate, we are looking forward to working with the most talented storytellers as we take on Hasbro’s rich fan-favourite brands and build entertainment universes around them.”

The first Power Rangers entry, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was built around a live-action superhero television series, debuting in 1993 based on the Japanese tokusatsu franchise Super Sentai.

“This is an unbelievable opportunity to deliver new Power Rangers to both new and existing generations of awaiting and adoring fans. We’ll bring the spirit of analog into the future, harnessing the action and storytelling that made this brand a success. I’m looking forward to working with the teams at eOne and Hasbro. Together, we can’t wait to share more Power Rangers with the world very soon,” said Entwistle.

Deadline is reporting that Bryan Edward Hill has signed and closed a deal with eOne and Hasbro to write the Power Rangers feature film adaptation from director Jonathan Entwistle. eOne will develop and produce the project.

Some of Hill's credits involve being a co-producer on Greg Berlantis new DC series Titans and writing for Marvel, DC, Top Cow, Boom and Vertigo.

it looks like after dino fury hasbro is doing their own thing with the brand and movingaway from toei and no longer gonna use sentai footage. it sadly looks liketheyre gonna reboot the franchise. remember last year this same director had said he was negotiating to do the movie and it was gonna have time travel to the 90s.

Over the last 27 years I've heard many rumors along those lines, thankfully nothing ever came of them. I'll just take a wait and see attitude.

Another question, is this "Mighty Morphin" Power Rangers? Or just, the next season of the ongoing show?

A lot of questions here. Chief among them: does this guy know/care what he's being given . . . or is he another clueless Hollyweird douche-rocket looking to increase his "brand" by reinventing the wheel? If so, we don't need him. The fans won't stand for it. That God-awful movie proved that.

Second: Will this be a "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie" situation with the film launching a new season of the show, or will the show they mention be separate from the regular series? If it's the latter, would they be cancelling the original series? It would truly suck if this turned into a case of throwing away steak in favor of a microwave burrito.

Ooooh that is a shrewd acquisition. His stuff is so personal and quirky, a great way to bring the PR into the 2020s. I mean the cast of the movie and their chemistry was great, but it was just so bland and generic.
