Ruby Rose Attacks CW, WBTV, Top Execs Over 'Batwoman'; WBTV Fights Back

Ruby Rose is back with her fight against the CW, Warner Bros. TV, Berlanti Productions, and top executives on Batwoman as she is coming out swinging, alleging toxic behavior on the set that drove them from the show.

Rose announced her departure in May 2020, leaving her title role as Kate Kane/Batwoman. There was no direct reason for her departure except that Rose was not happy on the show, and in a statement at the time, Rose said that “this was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew, and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

Rose continued the fight months later in a revealing interview that she was forced to return to work 10 days after a surgery “maybe wasn’t the best idea” and made their “taxing” job “more difficult.”

A year later, Rose has taken her story to Instagram and let everyone know the real reasons why she left Batwoman.

“Enough is enough,” Rose wrote which was addressed to the CW, Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries, and Berlanti Prods’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. “I’m going to tell the whole world what really happened on that set. I will come for you so what happened to me never happens to another person again. And so I can finally take back my life and the truth. Shame on you.”

Rose, who had had surgery for a stunt injury she had suffered, stated she was forced to return to work by the former head of Warner Bros. TV Peter Roth. Rose alleged Roth threatened her into returning by claiming it would cost the production “millions” and that “the whole crew and cast would be fired.” Rose also accused Roth of inappropriate behavior with a bizarre claim that he had asked women to steam his pants while he was wearing them, and alleged he had Rose investigated by a PI after she left the series. A source close to the production called the accusations against Roth, a respected veteran TV executive who retired last year, “slanderous and unfounded.” Additionally, Rose mounted an attack on former co-star Dougray Scott, who played their father, accusing him of misconduct on set, including allegedly being abusive to women and hurting a female stunt double.

“As Warner Bros. Television has stated, they decided not to exercise the option to engage Ruby for season two of Batwoman based on multiple complaints about her workplace behavior,” Scott said in a statement. “I absolutely and completely refute the defamatory and damaging claims made against me by her; they are entirely made up and never happened.”

Rose also detailed what they described as unsafe working conditions on-set, including serious injuries to a Batwoman crew member who received “third-degree burns over his whole body” during production. Rose also blamed the work conditions for causing serious injuries to other crew members, and slammed the show for “ruin[ing] Kate Kane.”

Rose concluded by asking fans to stop asking her to return to the show. “I wouldn’t return for any amount of money nor if a gun were to my head. NOR DID I QUIT. I DID NOT QUIT. They ruined Kate Kane and they destroyed Batwoman, not me. I followed orders, and if I wanted to stay I was going to have to sign my rights away. Any threats, any bullying tactics, or blackmail will not make me stand down,” she wrote.

Sources close to the situation insist that what Rose paints is a distorted picture of what transpired a year and a half ago, noting that Rose herself was the subject of an internal probe into bad behavior allegations by the studio, with the two sides ultimately opting to part ways. Rose’s claim that they were fired is consistent with what was rumored at the time of the actor’s exit, as the studio and the producers at the time allegedly agreed to present the departure as Rose’s decision, a PR practice often used in high-profile talent dismissals.

As soon as these statements from Rose went viral, Warner Bros. Television released a strongly worded statement in response to former star Ruby Rose’s scathing attack on the show, its producers, and former co-star Dougray Scott as well as the studio’s former top executive. The studio claims Rose’s account “revisionist history” and says that the action was the result of an internal probe into “multiple complaints about workplace behavior” against the actor. Such an investigation into Rose’s behavior on Batwoman had long been rumored but not officially confirmed until today.

The truth is that Warner Bros. Television had decided not to exercise its option to engage Ruby for season two of Batwoman based on multiple complaints about workplace behavior that were extensively reviewed and handled privately out of respect for all concerned.

I'm saying it's been two years... Let it go.

This is true. Guilty or not, Ruby should move on while she can. For better or worse, there's a thin line between being a Hollywood whistle-blower and being the next Sean Young.

And hey, the last time I checked, Ruby was still getting paid to make movies, while team Batwoman was struggling to keep a show everybody hates and nobody's watching afloat.

Point, Ruby Rose.

I'm not taking her side and I'm not taking the companies side but from what I read when posting this article/thread was the companies are taking the attitude of OK, it didn't work out because of both parties didn't get along. But she wants to keep dragging it through the mud until someone says none of it was her fault and she is crowned the winner. I'm saying it's been two years... Let it go.

Shes complaining about being thrown out of a dumpster fire with worse ratings than an original show on the weather channel? She should be sending CW exec's thankyou cards.

She's completely sending out mixed messages. First she tries to make it clear that her departure due to the rating and terrible writing that destroyed Batwoman (agree), but now she's angry because she it was NOT her decision to quit and she was just following orders. So where does your virtue lie? Were you happy to depart with the show because they ruined Kate Kane and destroyed Batwoman or were you happy to do as you were told and bitter because they let you go anyway? You can't have it both ways.

In all honesty it was much better that you abandoned this sinking ship early on. There are much better roles and characters for strong and powerful women out there for you to continue to be a role model. Getting shoe horned into this train wreck would have only helped to damage your career.

Put this thing behind you and focus on your future projects. I hear they're doing a John Wick prequel based on the Continental Hotel. I'm sure more than a few fans would be interested in seeing some back stories for Ares.

No not really. This show should've been cancelled after season 1.

Wrong. It should've been canceled after the first episode.

Seriously, how long can they carry this thing? I get it's only the CW, but, woke or not, ratings are money in TV Land, and this turkey is hemorrhaging like Johnny Depp in the bedroom scene in "Nightmare on Elm Street."

Does anyone even care about Rose or this flaming woke trash heap of a show?
