It's a Nerf gun, for play. It's not meant to be super accurate or for Trekkie collectors who want something realistic. It's meant to be fun, that you can actually play with. I've already ordered two, and I think it's fantastic, especially as something for kids to be able to play with. OMG as a kid who ran around with the lights off playing with the Playmates phasers in the dark with my friends, I would've LOVED this. These are 1000% awesome.

And yet, aside from the colors, the Mandalorian Amban blaster rifle and the Aliens M-41A pulse rifle were actually quite accurate. Those were clearly created with with collectors in mind, but they got more creative (and silly IMO) with the phaser rifle here, so as a fan and a collector, I'm disappointed, especially because aside from the Borgification on that thing, the shapes and proportions on the rifle -unlike the hand phaser - are very close to the screen used prop. Some fans will love it like you and some won't. I'm honestly glad you're happy with it, though. I really am.BTW, there's an implicit understanding that cosplayers and some collectors would want to repaint the rifle, as many have done with the Mando blaster and Aliens pulse rifle. Hasbro knows it, and they've added more work for people who would want to do that.

I might have been tempted by this, especially since Anovos cancelled their First Contact phaser replicas (and then filed for bankruptcy), but while the silly color scheme is one thing, the completely unnecessary "Borg assimilation" $#!& is another. Theoretically if that crap wasn't there, the rifle could be just be repainted, but it needs to be a lot more work to be anywhere near screen-accurate. Hell, I might have just bought the thing and kept it as is, if it weren't for all nonsense. I think this is going to annoy cosplayers and other Trekkie collectors.
