Continuing our series of advance reviews for the third wave of 6" DC Comics Icons figures from DC Collectibles, we take a look at Crime Syndicate member Atomica today. The figure is based on the character's appearance in the "Forever Evil" storyline and features a few pack-ins that aren't really associated with Atomica but still are cool nevertheless. Not one but two The Atom miniature figures are included. The larger Atom figure stands about 3" tall and contains 5 points of basic articulation while the smaller figure stands around 1 1/2" tall and comes with a clear plastic Atom display stand. The smaller figure has no articulation but both figures have rather solid paint applications and detail for being small. Besides the two mini Atom figures, Atomica comes with two pairs of interchangeable hands, a pair of fisted hands and a pair of open hands.
Atomica herself stands around 5 1/2" tall and sports good articulation as well as solid paint applications and sturdy joints. Oftentimes female figures suffer from gummy-joint syndrome, but not Atomica. This is our first female-based figure in the Icons line, and I think DC Collectibles has done a really nice job with the sculpting and paint on this one.
It is a little strange we didn't get a mini-Atomica figure to go with the larger one, but DC Collectibles did include an Atomica mini-figure when they released their 7" Crime Syndicate Johnny Quick figure roughly a year ago. The Atom mini-figures also go well with their previously released 7" Atom figure. Some might be bothered by not getting a matching mini-figure, but I view it more as getting two different figures in one package.
Atomica along with the rest of the third wave of DC Comics Icons are due out in June. Check out hi-res images for this figure below in our GALLERY.
