At the end of the day I just want a DC collection that rivals my Marvel collection. McFarland never got it right he always did versions of characters that had specific looks from specific stories, never just the classic version of them. Look how long it took him to give us the figures to make a classic justice league. Im just excited to see what Mattel does.

Then there's the real count of 93 figures (assuming I'm not missing any of the oddballs) consisting of 14 Batman, 10 Superman and 24 villains. The rest are heros and/or sidekicks. Not all the figures are shown on the back of the cards. There are multiple 3-packs and pack-in figures with vehicles and/or playsets.

Mcfarlane's take on the brand started out on shaky ground but since fixing the scaling issues has been fantastic. Yes, there are a lot of Batman and Superman figures but this would be the case no matter who made them. Kenner/Hasbro/Mattel released hundreds, literal hundreds of Batman figures from 1989 through Mattel letting the license go in 2020. Kenner/Hasbro alone made 200+ Batmans and they even released #100 and #200 commemerative Batman figures.

He didn't lose the line because of this. He lost it because Mattel outbid him due to Mattel being a multi-billion dollar company. Mattel obviously has some grand strategy due to spending the money to take back DC, getting the master license to TMNT and shutting everyone out of continuing their TMNT lines, and rescaling MOTU Masterverse to match both their DC lines and Marvel Legends. They have DC, TMNT and MOTU, so that's huge.

Not really. Mattel is huge and wanted it back. There was nothing Spin Masters and McFarlane could do.

McFarlane has not been great. But Mattel is not the action figure masters that people seem to think. I do agree they won't do nearly as many Batman figures as a percentage of their overall offerings.
