OMAC Project #1
The Eye in the Sky is watching
Just a small warning, this review may have some spoilers, so read with caution.
At the end of March, one of the biggest events of the year was beginning within the pages of Countdown. Now that Countdown is over, the aftermath is beginning within four DC mini-series. One of the most interesting comics to come out of Countdown is The OMAC Project.
The OMAC Project already has the fact that it takes right after the pages of Countdown to boost up the hype for the title. What makes it even better is that is has already sold out. It was to the point that you would be a fool not to at least try this book out.
Now that OMAC Project has finally come out, has it lived up to the hype everyone has been giving the title since day one? So far from what I’ve read, I’m really interested. Let me go into further detail.
In this issue, we get to see what happens right after the events of Countdown. Blue Beetle is dead, and Checkmate does a great of covering up the incident. The first issue is really just building up for greater things; we also learn that Booster Gold is out of the hospital and looking for Ted. Batman is trying to access his satellite and we find out that Batman has a connection within Checkmate as well.
The one thing that some readers may have trouble with is the fact that no one might know who Sasha Bordeux is. To let some of those people know, she was in Rucka’s Detective Comics run during the Bruce Wayne Murderer run, and his bodyguard as well. It is nice to see her being used again within comics in general.
I will admit, I never had any doubt due to the fact Rucka was behind the storyline. He is one of my overall favorite writers out right now. His Wonder Woman title is incredible as well as his Adventures of Superman run. Rucka has a way of making his books really more about the character then the action. I can’t wait to see what he has in store for the future.
Besides Countdown, this was my first exposure to Saiz’s art. Right now, I will admit that I am really impressed. His art has a very serious feel to it which is so right for the story.
Overall, OMAC does not disappoint, I give the first issue an 8.5 out of 10. It was a great read, not a lot happens but you can tell it is building up for even greater things within the title.
