Spider-Man 2 Blows Away DVD & Video Sales

The Hollywood Reporter says that Spider-Man 2 got off to a big start:

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's superhero sequel "Spider-Man 2" sold more than 6 million combined DVD and VHS units during its first day on retail shelves across the country, according to industry sources.

That Day 1 sales figure doesn't set any records, but the holiday gift-buying season should bode well for the Sam Raimi sequel, which is expected to get a boost in retail sales before Christmas. Sony reported Week 1 sales for the original "Spider-Man" at approximately 10 million combined units when it was released Nov. 1, 2002.
