Tom Hanks Looking At "Major Matt Mason" Movie

Universal Pictures is looking to develop a major motion picture based on the 1970's Mattel toy line called "Major Matt Mason." It is being reported that the movie will be written by Graham Yost and be a used as a vehicle to star actor Tom Hanks. Playtone partners Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce.

Major Matt Mason first hit toy stores back in 1966 and focused on a team of astronauts lead by Mason. Though the toy line has not seen the light of day since the 70's it is a good bet that will soon change. This would be the third Mattel toy line to be turned into a big budge film as Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver are currently working on a "He-Man and Masters of the Universe," movie which will be directed by "Kung Fu Panda" co-director John Stevenson, and a "Hot Wheels," movie which will be coming from Sony.
