Mattel Developing New Alien Toy Line For Franchise Purposes

by Outsiders
March 25, 2010
Vulture is reporting that Mattel challenged its designers to come up with a new toy line that could simultaneously be turned into a TV show, feature film, or game, for the ultimate branding weapon.

The unnamed toy line that Mattel has created will be an alien civilization that's been living in the depths of Earth's oceans. Mattel decided that this idea had the most options to spiral off into every possible product that people will pay to play with, see, hear, or eat. This also includes a potential film deal and have now partnered with producer Neal Moritz, who will soon start looking for screenwriters.

Moritz did not return calls seeking comment, and Mattel’s Hollywood representatives, Creative Artists Agency, declined to comment on the deal to Vulture.
