New Masters Of The Universe Figures - What's Exclusive And What Isn't

There has been a lot of confusion in regards to what recently revealed Masters of the Universe figures for both Origins and Masterverse are exclusives and which are regular released. That's because Mattel failed to actually provide much in the way of actual info about these when they dumped images for 31 new figures.

So I have been doing some digging to try and sort things out. Most of the 31 figures we saw yesterday, many of which went up for pre-order today are general releases. A few of the items are "Specialty Releases", which I think is Mattel's version of a fan-channel exclusive or only sold at select online etailers like our sponsors BigBadToyStore.com and Entertainment Earth. So the items that fall under that category include the following:

Origins Snakemen 4-Pack, Skeleton Warrior 2-Pack and Screech With Skeletor 2-Pack, all of which are available for pre-order now.

Next we have the "Timed Release Exclusive". These aren't really exclusive but when Mattel allows one particular retailer to open pre-orders or sell it before anyone else. Eventually everyone will offer it but it shows up at one retailer first. So today we saw the Origins Mini-Comic Man-E-Faces figure only go up for pre-order at Amazon. That figure will eventually be available everywhere that sells Origins figures, but for now only Amazon has it.

Another one of these "Timed Exclusives" will be the Masterverse Oversized New Eternia Whiplash. That has yet to go up anywhere but will eventually be available everywhere. I don't know for sure which retailer will be the first one to offer it, but my best guess is it will be Target. Perhaps it will be made available at the same time Target finally makes the Masterverse Revelation Man-at-Arms Deluxe Action Figure available for purchase. That is another "Timed Exclusive" that has been listed on the Target website for months now but not been actually available for purchase.

Finally we have the "Actual Retail Exclusives" that will only be available at one particular retailer. So the first figure we know to be a retail exclusive is that Origins Deluxe Flocked Moss Man figure which is exclusive to Walmart. It's actually been listed on the Walmart website for awhile now but not available for purchase currently.

The Masterverse New Adventures Skeletor and New Adventures Deluxe Slush-Head figures from what I can tell are also going to be retail exclusives. I don't know specifically for what store, but since the New Adventures He-Man figures was a Target exclusive, I am gonna guess these two will end up at Target as well.

There is also the MOTU Origins Rulers Of The Sun 3-Pack with Zap-Man, Kikto and Micro-Laser that I forgot to check on, but I think that will probably end up being a Target exclusive just like the first Rulers of the Sun 3-Pack was. Again I have not confirmed that one is an exclusive, but since it didn't go up for pre-order anywhere today, that seems the most logical conclusion.

So there you have it. When Walmart and Target get around to making their stuff available is anyone's guess but hopefully it will be soon.

If my life hadn't fallen apart starting 2016 I'd have all the Super7 stuff as well but......well it did. I'm also looking forward to Snout Spout, Gwildor/Orko the White, Movie Evil Lyn and Mekaneck they showed at SDCC

My complaint about the packaging is only that it's a change. It won't look good on a shelf next to the old packaging (just because it's different, not because it's worse). That's my only gripe. Since I don't open these (at least not yet), I would have preferred they stayed consistent (even if I was never a fan of the original packaging as it doesn't hold up very well at all to dings and dents).

My concern about the possibility that they've reduced articulation is based upon the looks of the figures, but I hope that it's just "hidden" better. I'd love to see some hands on reviews.

I had the full MOTU Classics wave from the Four Horesemen but received an offer that I couldn't turn down and sold it off. When the Masterverse line started up I foolishly talked myself into buying it but it doesn't hold a candle to the Classics sculpts by the Horsemen. I should probably just list my Masterverse collection online and see if I can get someone to buy the whole thing. Unfortunately it's just not as popular as that Classics line was so I'll likely get less than half of what I paid.

Lucky you. I have a good enough collection. But every once in a while I get a new one and remember just how good those feel to hold. Swriously, if they had butterfly koints id consider them perfect

Trying to get masterverse figures that fill the gaps now.

Being I have an almost complete MOTU Classics set I only get the figures from new media or who have appeared in Revelation and soon Revolution. I'll get Teela and Skeletek most definitely. Package means nothing to me being I put it in the garbage LOL.

Yeah I consider the new packaging an upgrade as well. But that's me. My big question is if the proportions have improved? The last trap jaws legs were way too long. I'll be getting skeletek regardless.

I prefer the new packaging too. The art looks way better than the open empty room of the old boxes.

also the Teela wave hasnt gone up for preorder yet, right? Cuz Ill def need her and Skeletor

Yuck. They changed the packaging. Not a big deal, but I prefer consistency. I haven't opened any of these figures, at least not yet so I would have preferred that they stuck with the original packaging (even though honestly it's not great) - and I've bought at least one version of every Masterverse character they've put out. Did they reduce the articulation also? It's hard to tell from these images. That is our 2nd version of Trap Jaw and at least our 3rd of MaA and Teela. Who knows on Skeletor at this point. If they've reduced the articulation, I probably just need to be done with this line.

If its anything like Wave 10 the articulation has been improved. They added drop down hips throughout wave 10 so don't know why you'd think they'd suddenly reduce articulation. First person I've seen who's not liked that new packaging.

The New Eternia seems like the versions weve been waiting for- next to the classics line. Hopefully they keep on this track. It would be great to get an alt 200X heads pack at some point.
