I think the difference here is that Turtles remains a strong franchise presence at retail so the crossover was, for the general public, leaning more on them than MOTU as the primary partner in the crossover. Thundercats just doesn't have that sort of cache - it's a nostalgia brand at this stage without new media presence in a while - so I wouldn't be surprised if the retailers didn't have that much faith in the line but the results have been strong enough to warrant continuing it longer that initially expected. But yeah, this is a real dangerous move - too many repaints and variations helped kill MOTU 200X and this heads down the same path...

I don't care about this line going super-well deep, but at least give us the main thundercats and villains, then by all means move on to something else, but don't get me started and swipe the rug from underneath me.
Or maybe the line was a bigger hit than predicted, and they put this wave out as a quick filler until they can get new figures made?
Panthor-Man was obvious and expected, after BattleCat-Man. Although a new snarling head sculpt would have been cool.
Lion-O in cartoon colors makes sense. But Panthro is a bit puzzling.
Im wondering if this was only intended as a 2 wave offering and these wave 3 repaints are just mattel's way of getting more money out of these molds before calling it a day.
Wave 3 is just a sad lackluster offering, This line is literally 3 months old, and we are already seeing variants on Lion-O and Panthro, when Panthro literally just came out, So many Thundercats characters we could be getting they give us this absolute ball drop of a wave, Only figure I'll be getting here is Panthor, which is also kinda sad because it's just a re-paint of the Battlecat, I'm into it, but this was a really phoned in wave.
Glad to finally see pics of Wave 3. Based on the illustrations, I was going to get w3 Panthro as I preferred the color scheme with silver armor and blue loincloth. But on the actual product, the armor is a darker gunmetal, and worse than that, his spiky suspenders are now dark navy, and his skin tone is darker grey. I think Ill stick with w2 Panthro.
Lion-O looks good in the gold armor, but they did not change the headpiece to gold to match. Odd choice. The brighter cartoon colors look good, though.

Yeah No I actually think it looks fine, I recently got Panthro and Tygra.
doesn't really look bad in person, something was off about some previous photos.
Went to a different Walmart last week and they were sold out of the Thundercats as well.
It was smart for Mattel/Walmart to stock these in a special display alongside the Origins Cartoon Collection. I wasnt collecting that line, but I enjoyed the Thundercats enough that I had to get She-Ra and He-Man (actually Faker, since He-Man cant be found for a good price) to go with them.

My local Walmart stocked the MOTU Thundercats as part of the special Hasbro/Mattel display. All of them have since sold out (except Skel-Ra, probably due to the higher price point and the fact he is stocked on the bottom shelf near the floor, below the Masterverse figures, while his wave mates are on the top peg). I know its anecdotal, but I hope this is a sign that the line is successful, and that it will lead to more characters like Bengali, Lynx-O and Pumyra. Only a few (if any) of theMOTU Origins and Masterverse figures have sold.
I totally love Super7s Thundercats Ultimates, but this MOTU crossover line is really cool in its own way, and a lot more fun than I expected. I enjoy swapping from armored to classic looks, just to change up the display now and then.
I really like the eye of Thundera on Cheetaras headpiece, and that the Sword of Omens has both versions of the eye on reverse sides.
Two problems. Number one is missing paint: Cheetaras armored head has no spots in her hair, and the rear loincloth is unpainted. And Mumm-Ras tongue is unpainted. Next, I wish they included the regular Power Sword with Lion-O or He-Man, and the Havoc Staff with Skel-Ra.
I was only planning to get Lion-O and Cheetara, but after having them in hand Im actually excited to get Tygra, Panthro and He-Man. But I think Ill wait for the wave 3 Panthro, as the color scheme works much better in my opinion, with the silver armor and blue loincloth. That gold armor on Lion-O looks pretty good too.
