The Maltese Cross emblem was such a great, enigmatic design element on the original toy, and one that Mattel should always stick with. The giant "H" modern versions replace it with should stand for "Hoary."
Happy for the Mark Taylor tributes, but will have to see these face sculpts in person before purchasing one. The pictures are not consistent.
Shortly before his death, Taylor was part of the Formo Toys team, in their initial Lords of Power line, featuring a helmeted barbarian in the Mark Taylor style. Then Mattel sued and they had to rebrand to Legends of Dragonore. Now that the man died, they honor him by name.
Sad Mattel could not have done this in his lifetime. Hope his estate is getting some royalties.
Could be wrong but Taylor wasnt a part of Formo. He might've advised them on some things while he was still alive.
And the thing with the horned warrior sketch that Taylor's widow said Formo could use was that it was made while Taylor was a Mattel employee and as such a Mattel asset which they ended up using in the Origins line. Mattel actually never sued them anyway, they probably just issued them a C&D.
The thing is a little research could've saved Formo time and money but I remember seeing that Emiliano guy say on the org, something along the lines of 'why should they have to check if it is something they could use'. It seems like it was Taylor's widow who mistook the sketch as belonging to Mark. The physical, tangible sketch probably does belong to the Taylors and possibly he was given rights to use it for prints, sketchbooks, etc. But for it to be used by another company for a similar line seems like that wouldnt be something mattel would allow.

With this new Queen Marlena, I guess it's not entirely dead. I'm not a huge fan of the Filmation line, but I like when they have characters who didn't have toys before. And it'd be a nice way to get more She-Ra characters.
