That's pretty interesting actually. Being a Hasbro property i wonder if this kind of low key kicks off some kind of DnD x Motu crossover...or maybe im just over thinking lol.

I like the figure but, ive just found for me personally, im not as interested in this form factor if there isnt some kind of nostalgia involved. But, an Origins style Warduke, Zarek, Strongheart, etc yes sign me up lol.

It's funny you brought up a DnD x MOTU Origins Crossover, because exactly 2 days ago I was talking with a friend about how that could be amazing, I for one would be very down for that, for some reason though I think toy companies have abandoned the idea that DnD figures sell, since we got our chances and they failed to, hey I was having fun with what NECA and Hasbro were doing.

I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I'm pretty sure that Axel Gimenez got the idea for this character from the vintage board game Heroquest - there is a miniature called the Chaos Warlock, and this design looks just like it (the one from the original board game, not the new remake). It's pretty obvious when you compare them; the sleeveless tunic, the armbands, the draping loin cloth, the skull in the center and of course the almost identical helmets. Personally, that makes me pretty excited for this figure for that reason because I love Heroquest.

To echo what others have said, if your main villain, one of the most recognizable in pop culture, is skull face, why do you make other villains who are also skull face?

If the bone cross on his sword is a clue, does that mean the evil power of Skeletor is retconned as a legacy, like the power of Grayskull was? Seems a bit tidy, but that's just a general issue with retcons. "Superman and Lex Luthor were really childhood friends!" They never really work.

It's dilution of Skeletor's uniqueness, certainly. I can understand 'sequel' lines harkening back to Skeletor as a reference like the abysmally named Skeleteen (groan) in the same way Star Wars referenced Darth Vader in Kylo Ren's character design, but to do so in a prequel line as well? Even given how very fantasy illustration-based MOTU is, it just shows a lack of originality.

The new Masters of the Universe Origins Great Black Wizard Figure from Mattel is now available for Club Grayskull Members only on MattelCreations. It should be available for everyone the following day. From the depths of MOTU lore and Preternia comes a new evil to contend with. The Great Black Wizard is a villainous sorcerer previously only teased on packaging artwork. Originally concepted by Axel Gimenez, this warlocks first time in the spotlight is as a members-only figure that highlights the strength of his magic and his fighting prowess. With a massive sword in one hand and a Shaping Staff in the other, dressed head to toe in battle armor, this skull-faced wizard is a truly daunting foe.

Okay so this wasn't some elaborate custom, okay, well yet again another random who is this guy figure...so much of that these days, and not the figures I want like two-bad ? really not that guy, Blast-Attak? whatever, I'm all for everything Origins basically as long as it's a new character, but I want them prioritize figures we want, not some guy I actually legit don't know....again with these weirdos.

I;ll buy it obviously, but I wish we'd fill the final slots for the original series, then at least move on to stuff that classics did..
