It's
Wednesday and you know what that means:
ToyFarce review!
This week, we're having a look at the
Figura Obscura The Mouse King figure by the
Four Horsemen Studios! They switched things around this time, and it wasn't a
Ghost of Christmas Present or
Future, as everyone expected (
and a small part of the community seemed to have taken it as a personal betrayal, for some reason). Another beautiful entry in the
Figura Obscura line!
The
Mouse King is the antagonist in the
Nutcracker short story by
Alexandre Dumas turned into a legendary ballet by
Pyotr Tchaikovsky. In some versions of the story, it can be a mouse or a rat, and have multiple heads. The
Four Horsemen Studios went with the version with seven heads, while giving us the option to display him with only one. When I saw the pictures of it before ordering it, I had assumed he would be smaller, a
goblin or dwarf scale, since it's supposed to be a mouse, and since my
Figura Obscura shelf is starting to be very crowded in the Detolf, I was happy to get a smaller figure, easier to sneak into the display. I didn't look into it too much before ordering it, only to realize later that it's a '
normal size' figure.
Oh well...

The
Mouse King comes with
7 heads, attached on the same neck piece, along with a separate
neck piece for a single head, an extra
pair of hands, a
collar (or
ruff), a
sword, a
scepter, a beautiful
soft goods cape, a
secret item (more on that later) and a
green stand, along with the
magnetic sleeve/backdrop from the box. As is tradition, he also comes with a
booklet with the full story of the character and the
Four Horsemen Studios details, which I always love to dive into. I put
Tchaikovsky's ballet in the background while taking pictures and reading it, and it was pretty nice.

The figure looks amazing, and that multi-headed piece is really awesome. It is a bit
top heavy, of course, so you have to play a bit with the pose for the figure not to fall forward. The other neck piece is really nice too, allowing you to have him as a normal mouse/rat character, or even a '
noble' one with the
collar/
ruff. It has great articulations too and I have seen it posed as a normal mouse/rat, crawling on the floor. The
soft goods cape looks amazing, red with black on the inside, with hole and patches on it. My only issue with it is the tail, which does not want to stay in the peg, but I've had that issue with every character who has a tail so far (Krampus, Jersey Devil,...). That tiny ball peg does not seem to work with me, and the tail falls down whenever I move the figure. I might just glue it...

This year, the
bonus part, which came hidden in a black baggie, is none other than a
Nutcracker head sculpt. I can talk about it now, since the '
embargo' that the
Four Horsemen Studios Facebook groups had ended on Christmas. It's a fun take on the
Nutcracker character. I put it on the
Silver Knight body to fight the
Mouse King.
