Netflix' Stranger Things is adding Sean Astin, Paul Reiser and Linnea Berthelsen, among newcomers Dacre Montgomery and Sadie Sink in the sophomore season of the 1980s sci-fi drama from brothers Matt and Ross Duffer.
They join a cast that includes new series regular Joe Kerry (Steve Harrington) and Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) as well as breakout star Millie Bobby Brown (aka Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan), Cara Buono (Karen) and Matthew Modine as Martin Brenner.
Astin will play Bob Newby, a kind-hearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.
Reiser will play Dr. Owens, a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a "clean-up" assignment who is tasked with containing the events of last year.
Berthelsen is set as Roman, an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab.
"There's definitely a handful of really compelling new characters this season, but absolutely servicing the core group first and foremost," executive producer Shawn Levy previously told sources.
"Like the show itself, it's multigenerational new characters and really, really intriguing ones."
