The Future Of DC Movies: Aquaman Sequel, Suicide Squad, Birds Of Prey & Batgirl

It feels as if every month, we are reading about a DC superhero movie being developed or a DC superhero movie being canned. Forbes contributor Mark Hughes has taken a look at the future of DC Films such as Aquaman, The Flash, Suicide Squad, Birds Of Prey, Batgirl, Superman and Shazam!

Warner Bros. have announced they are cashing in on Aquaman and have hired David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick to write the script for the sequel. The sequel is being produced by director James Wan and Peter Safran and have made over $328 million in North America and $784 million internationally.

DC has discussed making The Flash movie based on the popularity of the TV show, but has been repeatedly delayed in the past, and recently once again slowed down and pushed back the expected start of production. This project may never get out of first gear.

The Suicide Squad sequel is looking to take a whole new direction with having a new cast of characters and avoid direct tie-in to the first film's events. Harley Quinn is not expected to return, and James Gunn's script will be a new approach and rethinking of the property. The Mad Love-type Joker and Harley Quinn film has also fallen by the wayside, as has the solo Joker project for Jared Leto's version of the character from Suicide Squad.

For the record, Birds of Prey and Batgirl will not be tied together, for those who mistakenly believed the rumors that Barbara Gordon would have a continuing arc through both films. And there is not a Gotham City Sirens project crossing over with Birds of Prey, despite rumors to the contrary.

Hughes wanted to point out after discussing the Superman movies that Henry Cavill is not on the verge of making another Superman picture and did not film a secret cameo for Shazam!

Sad part is that as bad DCTV has it they seem to be more organized and committed than the movie side.

I'd settle for just getting Berlanti committed.

Happy about Aquaman 2... Not so happy about Harley being edged out of Suicide Squad 2, and little in the way ofanything Superman/Cavill. But, what can ya do?
