'Knight Rider' Feature In Development From Spyglass Media & James Wan

Spyglass Media Group, Atomic Monster’s James Wan and Michael Clear are developing a film based on the 1980s classic action series Knight Rider. No star or director has been mentioned but TJ Fixman, a former video game writer, is adapting the screenplay and Judson Scott will serve as executive producer.

Plot details are being kept under wraps but sources hear it will be a present-day take that will maintain the anti-establishment tone of the original.

The TV series was created by Glen A. Larson and aired on NBC from 1982-1986 and boosted David Hasselhoff’s career. It’s about a high-tech car named KITT that assists the mysterious crime-fighting driver Michael Knight (Hasselhoff). The series has assumed a huge following and spun more TV spinoffs, films, video games, books, and a Knight Rider convention known as KnightCon.

Fixman wrote and developed the video games Ratchet and Clank and Resistance: Fall of Man.

It will be gender reversed (including the voice of KITT) with a mostly POC cast and be turned into a buddy-cop comedy. And I'm sure Kristen Wiig will be in there somewhere. And/or Rebel Wilson.

"Plot details are being kept under wraps". Yeah I can see itnow Michael is going to pass the torch to his son who is going to be played by Chris Pratt.

I didnt even know there were others I'm only familiar with the original one that I watched as a kid and then I saw the pilot of the 2008 one and that was it.

That's the way it SHOULD be. If you consider yourself a Knight Rider fan, do not go looking. That's a road you don't wanna go down.

Well . . . yes, it can. There was the TV movie taking place in the Mad Max-esque post apocalyptic wasteland where the super-car is built from a crashed stealth fighter and the computer is a hologram with the mind of the heroes dead girlfriend; there was the reunion movie/backdoor pilot where Kit is rebuilt into a bright orange concept car and remote controlled by a police woman who had a microchip implanted in her brain after being shot in the head (in one scene the car zaps James "Scotty" Doohan who cameoed as himself), and Team Knight Rider where the cars talk but otherwise are just regular cars . . . except for the talking motorcycles, driven by the central casting hipster tech-nerd and the hot blonde former super-thief, that on command, magically merge into an ugly sports car. Oh, and the racially ambiguous brunette bad-girl is the missing Michael Knight's ex-girlfriend.

So yeah, while Val Kilmer as a self-repairing nano car is pretty bad, it is sadlyFAR from the worst case scenario.

I didnt even know there were others I'm only familiar with the original one that I watched as a kid and then I saw the pilot of the 2008 one and that was it.

This will be just as good as Baywatch. I guarantee it.

these are my thoughts...... no thanks man, no body wants a Knight Rider movie in 2020 , some things need to be left alone

I feel like it would have been a better choice to keep it set in the 80s. Crime fighter in a smart car isn't something especially extraordinary anymore.

What if it's a really smart car, tho? ?
