Netflix and Skydance announce a new anime series based on the globally successful Terminator franchise, the first animated TV adaptation of the franchise.

The series is produced in partnership with Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, B: The Beginning) who Netflix has a Production Line Deal with since 2018.

Showrunner/Executive Producer: Mattson Tomlin (Project Power, The Batman)

Mattson Tomlin: "Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart. I'm honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts."

John Derderian, Netflix, Vice President of Japan & Anime: "Terminator is one of the most iconic sci-fi stories ever created--and has only grown more relevant to our world over time. The new animated series will explore this universe in a way that has never been done before. We can't wait for fans to experience this amazing new chapter in the epic battle between machines and humans."

Mitsuhisa Ishikawa, President and CEO of Production I.G: "I asked my long-time friend and colleague Mamoru Oshii what he thought about the idea of turning Terminator into an animated series. His response was "Ishikawa, are you out of your mind?" At that instant, I was confident we should get onboard. As huge fans, our team at Production I.G is putting their heart and souls into creating this series. We hope fans will enjoy it!"

The last movie had a few issues, but I really liked it a lot better. It was a huge improvement over the previous two movies that came before it. Anyway, this isn't a movie, and while there's only been one Terminator spin-off series-The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which was obviously live action and not anime-it was probably the best Terminator anything made after T2. Did the franchise have to keep going after 1991? No. Will Hollywood ever leave this alone? Also no.

I agree with this statement on all fronts!I will say this though, if there is one thing that anime as a whole excels at, it is tech/robot/AI type stuff. Having an anime spin on the Terminator may not be a bad thing- so long as the character designs don't have crazy Goku hair and they avoid strange anime humor...

I don't know this franchise has that, stop kicking him he's already dead" feel for me.

After T2, each successive movie felt more and more like a case of diminishing returns. Almost felt like the last movie was thought of as a joke.

Well, unlike the three before it, the last movie was REALLY good (not 1 or 2 good, but still really good). Sadly, nobody saw it.

seems like every franchise is getting a chance at a new series on a streaming service, let terminator get a crack at it.

Wanna see that liquid metal dealing damage then getting its ass kicked by Arnold S again. Making me happier I subscribed to Netflix. how I only wish #ZackSnydersJusticeLeague will air on it , too, and all DC stuff for that matter.

This could be the perfect way to rejuvenate franchise. Hopefully it's good.

Hopefully, they won't do the same story all over again. For all of its flaws at least Salvation was different.
