According to
Deadline, Lucy Liu has signed on to play the villainous Kalypso in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s Shazam! from New Line and DC Films.
Liu is joining star Zachary Levi, back to reprise his title role and new cast members Rachel Zegler and Helen Mirren, who will play the villain Hespera, a daughter of Atlas and sister to Kalypso.
David F. Sandberg is returning to direct the sequel from a screenplay by Henry Gayden based on the DC character created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck. Peter Safran is producing through The Safran Company.
The sequel will continue the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!” is struck by the Living Lightning of the gods and transformed into his adult superhero alter ego, Shazam.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated for release on June 2nd, 2023.
Liu has co-starred for seven seasons on CBS’ popular drama Elementary and credited for her roles in the Charlie’s Angels films and Kill Bill.
This movie is shaping up to be awesome. Diverse cast, historical accuracy...and the Rock playing the comic bookcharacter he was born to play. I can't wait forthis one.
Love LL. She makes any project better. She's been in some floaters, but it's never been due to her. She's got that dry, mean streak that makes her a great villain base. I'm hopeful for this movie, but wouldn't be a bit surprised if it turned South and heads in the direction ofWonder Woman '84 or Birds of Prey and theFantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (y'know, just in case you didn't get the gist of what it was all supposed to be about). Uggghhhh!
