We reported yesterday on our sister site, MarvelousNews.com, that WandaVision director Matt Shakman is in talks to direct Marvel’s Fantastic Four. In doing so, he has dropped out of Paramount/Bad Robot’s Star Trek movie which he was previously attached to helm.

Paramount Pictures released a statement in regards to Shakman leaving:

“Matt Shakman is an incredibly talented filmmaker, and we regret the timing didn’t align for him to direct our upcoming Star Trek film. We are grateful for his many contributions, are excited about the creative vision of this next chapter, and look forward to bringing it to audiences all around the world.”

The movie is scripted by the feature franchise’s first female writers, Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and remains dated December 22nd, 2023.

Not to take away from these two writers, but please google the name Dorothy "D.C." Fontana. She is not only the first female writer for Star Trek, she is largely responsible for laying the groundwork for most of what we think of as Star Trek. In the 60s, she wrote under the name "D.C" to disguise the fact that it was a woman writing the series. She is a a pioneer and to have her contributions swept under the rug so easily is disheartening.

I believe that Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are the first female writers for the Star Trek movies.
