“Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe,” said Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment, The CW Network. “We are grateful for the years of hard work and graceful storytelling from the show’s writers, producers, actors and crew, as well as our terrific partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions. As Superman embarks on his final flight, the team is leaving us with an absolutely epic 10-episode must-watch-every-minute farewell to one of the most legendary CW families ever.”
“While we’re sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of Season Four, we’re grateful for the time we’ve had with our amazing cast, crew, vfx teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that’s what was created—on and off screen,” said executive producers and co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher. “We’d like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey…and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in. We’re thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can’t wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show’s history—Lex Luthor.”
Ugh... I didn't watch this much, cancer storyline is really depressing to me since I also lost my mom to breast cancer, personally I try to avoid such stories, it ruins whole escapism aspect but I get why some writers might want to explore such topics.
It's a comic story as well.
Diamond Lil in Alpha Flight had a story arc where she wasn't sure if she had breast cancer. Made worse by having diamond hard skin.
And Jim Wilson, one of the Hulk's supporting characters, died of AIDS.
These types of stories happen in comics too.
S & L handled the story very well. I should know, since I've lived through losing my mom to breast cancer.

Lois that gets cancer is a total soap opera story line!I was wondering if they finally made Lucy Lane into Superwoman ala https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Lucy_Lane_(New_Earth)

I laughed out loud when they tried to pass this guy off as Superman during the Supergirl series (which had its own weak storylines). Yeah, he's no Cavill, but couldn't they have found SOMEONE more fitting for the part? Then he gets his own show, looking a bit better (but doesnt know how to use a razor I guess). And then they slap him with the wife and not one, but TWO teenage kids straight out of CW Casting. Frankly I'm surprised it lasted this long. From what I saw, it wasnt an awful show (not like that steaming pile that Batwoman was) but it just didn't grab me.

I agree. I watched every episode of each of the CW DC shows and will miss them terribly. We were in a golden era of comic/superhero based TV shows and movies there for awhile, but I think that has pretty much ended or is towards it's end. It couldn't last forever any more than the era of westerns, mobster or zombie tv shows (or movies) or any other genre did.
I just finally finished watching the final season of Riverdale earlier this week. I'll miss that one too. It's always sad when something you've invested years into ends. I'll basically watch anything comic related and generally avoid just about everything else - so I'm likely going to have a lot less to watch in the future - especially with Disney/Marvel starting to scale well back also.
This particular announcement was expected, but still disappointing. I'll probably never tune into the CW ever again and this particular show is over, after being a very faithful viewer going all the way back to the Smallville years. They seem to be abandoning any scripted content that I would have ever been interested in.
