I was not impressed with the latest BATMAN movie. Subsequently I didn't think much of the Penguin getting his own series. If BATMAN can't dazzle then how could some 3rd-rate waste of space like Cobblepot? Just seemed like the thing with Sony; they've got rights to all these characters but without Spider-Man, they're basically empty, feeble jokes.
Wound up hitting the series by mistake with the remote; it drew me in. Before I knew it, they had me but good. Farrell (who I have never warmed to) was just KILLING it, scene after scene. Oh but THEN...Cristin Millioti! Holy golden statues, Batman! If she doesn't get an Emmy for this I'll sue!
The writing on this, the acting is just off the charts. They captured Oz's blend of sociopathy and psychopathy brilliantly; his backstory with his mother (knocked out of the park byDeirdre O'Connell), and his viciouswar with show-stealer Cristin. I'm late to the party but still, no spoilers. Recommend you watch it for yourself. Blown away.

HBO unveiled a new midseason trailer for THE PENGUIN, from Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, today at New York Comic Con (NYCC). New episodes debut Sundays on HBO and are available to stream on Max.
Starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb (aka "The Penguin"), the DC Studios series continues filmmaker Matt Reeves' "The Batman" epic crime saga that began with Warner Bros. Pictures' global blockbuster "The Batman." Developed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, the series centers on the character played by Farrell in the film.

Daniel Pipski also serves as executive producer.
Interesting multiverse take on Osvaldo Coppolaplot. Could be a real treat.
Looking forward to this. Gotham was a whole show where Batman only appears in the very last episode. And it worked. These characters are interesting enough to hold the interest of the watcher on their own. I am especially trusting Farrel after having watched Sugar this year.
I disagree just look at all of Sony's Spider-man villain movies
I don't even know why the Joker movie gets so much praise. It doesn't seem very interesting to me without Batman.
Im happy enough for Batman or Bruce not to be in this show physically, as long as Batman is mentioned on occasion like a throw away line kinda like what if the Batman turns up? I think it will work , this is meant to be Ozs story and extra character development
Lauren LeFranc, the showrunner and writer, informed SFX magazine through Deadline that Robert Pattinson will not portray Bruce Wayne or Batman in the upcoming HBO series The Penguin. Pattinson is currently playing Bruce Wayne/Batman in the film directed by Matt Reeves. Meanwhile, Colin Farrell is set to reprise his role as the villain he first played in 2022s The Batman for the new HBO series The Penguin.
QuoteI understand why peoples desire would be to have Batman, or to think that unless Batmans in a show or a film then it doesnt have the same punch." To me I think it packs a different punch. Matts films are through the lens of the Batman, so youre high up, looking down on the city. Its a different perspective. With Oz, youre in the city streets, youre in the grit and the muck and the grime. Hes looking up, wanting to claw his way to the top.
I think Gotham is an interesting enough city that it deserves to have more doors unlocked within it, and for us to walk through those and see what we think.
