Dan Trachtenberg Discusses Future of The Predator Franchise After Badlands

by Shawn Kirk
November 4, 2025
Director Dan Trachtenberg has hinted at the Predator franchise's future in an interview with ScreenRant. Following recent streaming success with Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers, Predator: Badlands will focus on the Yautja as the protagonist for the first time. Trachtenberg suggests he has ideas for another Predator project but is also interested in directing films outside the franchise. His next move depends partly on Badlands’ reception. Trachtenberg explained to interviewer Ash Crossan:

“More of this stuff would be awesome. And also — I want to make movies that don’t always have Predators in them. But all of this has been incredibly enticing, and I’ve been able to make, inside this franchise, the kinds of movies I’ve always wanted to see and make anyway. So it would be wonderful to do more. Hopefully people love Badlands and want to see more.”

Early social media reviews for Predator: Badlands are positive, especially regarding its story about an outcast Predator (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) teaming up with an android, played by Elle Fanning. But with its recent home streaming model (the last theatrical Predator release was in 2018), the demand for big-screen entries remains to be seen.

Badlands, eh? Well they've been doing quite well with the newer additions to the franchise so far, so hope this goes well too.

I never liked the connection to the Alien 'verse, but it is what it is. In the 2nd sequel, sure we see a Xenomorph skull mounted as a trophy, but that doesn't/shouldn't mean Yajutja regularly hunted them. Could have just as well been the skull of one that slaughtered an entire contingent, before it was finally brought down. BUT....the story on screen says otherwise so....it is what it is. At any rate there's a synth from the Alien 'verse here and it'll be interesting to see how this goes down. Looking forward to it!!

Yeah I was kinda surprised by it being Animated, seems like a lot of Animated stuff coming out these days, I.E. Terminator, LOTR, Star Wars thingy, that recent Spider-Man show, now this, I'm going to watch for sure, But I'd like to think we are still getting a new Live Action Predator movie, I thought that was coming?
