Paramount Said to be Moving on from the Pine/Quinto Star Trek Crew

November 4, 2025
In August 2025, the merger of Skydance Media with Paramount Global was finalized, resulting in the formation of the Paramount Skydance Corporation. David Ellison, who now serves as Chairman and CEO of the newly merged entity, has emphasized the urgency to execute his vision for the organization's transformation. Variety recently featured a story on Ellison’s first 100 days and gave some insights into the studio’s outlook for several beloved franchises.

Plans are underway for a new Star Trek film, though the studio has decided not to pursue the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, or other cast members from the J.J. Abrams era. Additionally, development continues on sequels to both Top Gun and Days of Thunder. Tom Cruise, star of these series, recently visited the Paramount lot to discuss his potential involvement in these projects as well as possible future collaborations.

If Paramount gets WB, I can see them not making as much Star trek content in the near future, since it won't be the only potential franchise cash cow they would have, which can be good cause Paramount might give more careful consideration to whatever next Star Trek project might be.

I'm cautiously optimistic about it. I did like their previous works. If they restart with yet another Kirk & crew story then forget it.

"Fresh interpretation"....in other words, attempt to exploit the fame and gravitas of the original shows and movies, because they know they haven't any original notions that would actually sell. Rodenberry got it right and deciding to "go in another direction" just hasn't worked out, for the movies or for tv.

Sure, the "you haven't seen it yet" crowd will chastise this view, and its a valid point. But to that I say, Neither have You.

I'd add that, given the previous offerings we've seen over the years, my disdain is justified.

But hey...prove me wrong, and I will be the first to admit it. In fact I would be GLAD to be wrong on this.

Eh. These movies never really set my world on fire, won't bother me none if they scrap 'em and start from scratch again.

I loved Alice Eve and the uniforms in the first two movies, but I thought the stories were awful and that Pine didn't watch a single episode of TOS before trying to be Kirk.
