New Star Trek Movie In The Works From Spider-Man/D&D Duo

After their successes with Spider-Man and Dungeons & Dragons, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are now set to tackle another major franchise. According to Deadline, the pair will write, produce, and direct a brand new original Star Trek film for Paramount, producing it under their GoldDay banner.

While plot specifics remain undisclosed, this Star Trek installment is reportedly a fresh interpretation of the universe, unrelated to previous or ongoing TV shows, films, or existing development projects. This aligns with recent statements from Skydance founder David Ellison, who said that the next Star Trek movie wouldn’t be a sequel to the Chris Pine-led series but would instead feature new actors and a different direction.

Goldstein and Daley are known for infusing established properties with originality and fun. Their work on films like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has been praised by both fans and critics for combining engaging stories with their signature witty humor. This blend of storytelling and light-heartedness promises something fresh and exciting for the Star Trek franchise.

Watching the Abrams/Kelvin-Universe Star Trek films has been like watching a kid playing with Star Wars toys as if they were a slasher flick. Yeah, there was a different stamp put on it, bu they never "got" Star Trek.

Trek Into Darkness was bad. Very bad.

It was absurdly nonsensical.

But I loved Alice Eve. And the uniforms.

Yeah think we got that, since the last one was 2016, pretty sure we all figured they shut the door on that saga.

It wasn't bad, it wasn't great, it just was. But the last one....Beyond was just boring.

And I am not watching the new one too the Allisons truly destroyed this franchise

If Paramount gets WB, I can see them not making as much Star trek content in the near future, since it won't be the only potential franchise cash cow they would have, which can be good cause Paramount might give more careful consideration to whatever next Star Trek project might be.

I'm cautiously optimistic about it. I did like their previous works. If they restart with yet another Kirk & crew story then forget it.

"Fresh interpretation"....in other words, attempt to exploit the fame and gravitas of the original shows and movies, because they know they haven't any original notions that would actually sell. Rodenberry got it right and deciding to "go in another direction" just hasn't worked out, for the movies or for tv.

Sure, the "you haven't seen it yet" crowd will chastise this view, and its a valid point. But to that I say, Neither have You.

I'd add that, given the previous offerings we've seen over the years, my disdain is justified.

But hey...prove me wrong, and I will be the first to admit it. In fact I would be GLAD to be wrong on this.

Eh. These movies never really set my world on fire, won't bother me none if they scrap 'em and start from scratch again.

I loved Alice Eve and the uniforms in the first two movies, but I thought the stories were awful and that Pine didn't watch a single episode of TOS before trying to be Kirk.
