Following a highly competitive bidding process over the past few months, A24 has secured the rights to develop new content based on the Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise, famous for introducing audiences to Leatherface and his notorious family. The independent studio plans to launch a series adaptation first, with Glen Powell serving as an executive producer and JT Mollner set to direct. The same production group, alongside Image Nation, is also in early stages of developing a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, though Mollner is not attached to this project.
A24 boasts a robust history in horror, having produced titles like Hereditary, Midsommar, and Ti West’s X/Pearl/MaXXXine trilogy. Additionally, the studio is behind another reboot of a legendary horror title with Peacock’s Friday the 13th prequel, Crystal Lake.
Since its debut in 1974, the franchise has expanded to include eight sequels, prequels, and remakes, the most recent being Netflix’s 2022 release, Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
