Kate Winslet Joins The Hunt for Gollum

Kate Winslet has joined the cast of Andy Serkis' The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, set for a 2027 release. She will play the female lead in a, as-yet-undisclosed role for the film, which is based on footnotes J.R.R. Tolkien wrote about what happened between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. The story follows a young Aragorn's quest to find Gollum before Sauron does.

Shooting is scheduled for a five-month period in New Zealand from late May to October 2026. Serkis directs and stars as Gollum, with Peter Jackson producing. This marks a reunion for Winslet and Jackson, who previously worked together on the 1994 film Heavenly Creatures. Additionally, Ian McKellen is confirmed to return as Gandalf, with rumors of Elijah Wood returning as well.

I am an LOTR super fan, you'd think I'd be like "YAY" but I'm more like Nay...honestly the hobbit trilogy was pushing it, but then we got a show that was so forgettable, and a cartoon movie that nobody knew existed, and I hate to say it we don't need this, let us just live with the movies we have, there isn't actually a ton more story to tell, stop squeezing the juice out.
