Don Mancini is writing and directing the next installment in the Child’s Play franchise marking Chucky's return to the big screen for a theatrical release—the first time since 2004's Seed of Chucky. Mancini plans to move away from the campy humor of recent entries and the TV series, instead aiming to "make Chucky scary again". The tone is described as a throwback to the original first two Child's Play movies and 2013's Curse of Chucky.
The movie will not be a reboot; it will stay in continuity with the existing seven-film original timeline and the three-season Chucky television series. But unlike the previous two sequels (Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky), which were direct-to-video, this film is being developed specifically for theaters.
While no casting has been reported, Brad Dourif, who has semi-retired from acting, has previously indicated he would return to voice Chucky for Mancini.
Even if there are ups and downs, it's really great to see that the original creators are back for another round. I hope everyone's trying to be a "good guy".
